Shutting off Aircon to One Room in The House Remotely

Hi All,

Just wondering if this is a possibility.( I know you could close the vents ) but I would like to be able to do this remotely so that it can be turned on and off daily.

The most simple way I would have thought is to put some kind of open-close actuator in between the air conditioning duct that goes to that room is there anything like that available to buy, I couldn't find anything. the closest I came was this

Any Thoughts or tips appreciated.

Does the ducted unit have individual room controls? Like if you are home can you use the remote to isolate/open that room?

  • Broadlink RM4 Mini Remote

If it doesn't have a remote you can try a Switchbot

  • Those are zone motors, that you attach to an inline 'duct damper'. Basically a big butterfly valve that you put in the ductwork - i.e. there's not just one component.

Size up the duct to be zoned and then get a damper from a local aircon place - they can order in basically any size you need, and also install & wire the motor as well. Not really an eBay/DIY kind of item that you can just buy online.

If you get a suitable zone motor, you could hook it up to your home automation system and control via your phone.
