Transfer Photos from Macbook to Android Phone

Hi all,
I own the legendary pixel 1 phone with unlimited photo and video backup.
I am now looking at backing up my partner's photos. The problem is the mac book where the photos are stored does not recognise the android phone.
Is there a way around this?
I tried looking up Syncthing but couldn't find it in the app store

You need to install the macOS Application that was made by Google inc called "Android File Transfer" it doesn't cost any money. Plug in USB and you can browse the phone's File System as per normal.
