Vuity for Presbyopia

Has anyone started using it? My parents are resistent to glasses but I'm excited at eye drops finally becoming a reality for them. Anyone knows if it's now available?

In the USA, it's a prescription product. So you'll definitely need to visit a doctor or even an eye specialist (aka ophthalmologist) to obtain it.

The active ingredient appears to be Pilocarpine, it's one those products where they make "old stuff is new again". According to the Optometry subreddit they've been using pilocarpine as a treatment for many years now. https://www.reddit.com/r/optometry/comments/rkyhyk/drops_for…

    • Looks like it just constricts your pupils?

    Pretty much.

    • I'm pretty sure they've had stuff like that for years.

    Yep.

Smaller pupils increase depth of focus at the expense of dimmer vision (poorer night vision).

You're right it's not grounds breaking or anything. And it's not exactly practical either, because you are losing something in the exchange. But presbyopia is very frightening for some people for social and psychological reasons, so an FDA approved drop proclaiming to treat presbyopia like this might be seen as a miracle cure for someone like that. It probably cost a lot more under the FDA approved name as well… Welcome to the pharmaceutical world.

There's some mixed views about this product from various ophthalmologists

    • Wow thanks! That's a lot of material that I had previously not come across before yet. I'll have a look through them.

They were working on an alpha lipoic acid ester product as well which seemed a bit more 'natural' in that it loosned the bonds in the lense allowing it to contract normally. Not sure where they are up to with it though.

This seems to be an even better solution if it works, as it's actually treating the root cause rather than the constriction of the pupil.
