You're much much better off just getting a SIM card at the airport. They're quite cheap. A few UK providers have EU coverage as well included.

Get a giffgaff sim in the uk. Loads of different GB options for fairly cheap. You can then use up to 20GB in EU.

+1 for Giffgaff. Best thing about them is you can go to their website, order a free sim delivered to your AU address.
I’ve just received 1 for trip coming up.
When you land in UK, pop sim into phone, activate & off you go.
Giffgaff uses O2 network, so coverage pretty good.
80GB for £20. Incl 20GB in EU (as mentioned by jjjaar)

      • 100GB now for £20 ;)

Even better just buy an eSIM if your phone supports it - no mucking around having to buy a physical SIM.

Then if your current provider still roams for SMS (handy for bank confirmations etc) you can still get those - just switch all outgoing voice/data onto the eSIM.
