Not the cheapest ever (went down to $14.50 here) but still a great price for a 5 port plug and play switch. I bought one end of last year and it's been working great.

Thanks OP - needed a switch!

A switch is as good as a holiday.

    There's also an 8-port version for $25

Nice find, but I think the white one isn't gigabit. 10/100Mbps only and different product code LS1005 vs LS1005G

        you are right, my bad.

Waiting for the "I'm not buying anything less than 10 gigabit switch" comment.\

    $16 is worthwhile.

      get 10 for $160

Just a heads up, these are incredibly light and can slide around pretty easily once cables are connected.

    Doesn't look like POE ?

    Any POE models?

    • The 1005P is the poe model. It's way too expensive though, a couple bucks extra and you can get the 8 port.

  • +2

5 ports switches are really only 4 port + 1 uplink port to connect it to the modem.
TP-Link Litewave 8-Port gigabit switch (LS1008G) is only $25 at Amazon AU. Still uses lightweight plastic case but works out slightly cheaper per port if you need more ports.

  • Damnit I needed a switch.

    Thanks op, missed it :(

  • Would this suit my use case:

I have one data port in the living room which I would ideally like to connect my nvidia shield, PS5, Switch and potentially a eufy basestation (to extend the wifi signal for my cameras). What issues could i face if i was to do this?

    • +1

I can’t see any issues with that, as long as the cabling into your data port is solid (ie it works well now). It would use all the ports, so there would be no further expansion available.

  • +1

Almost double the price, but this one would be better - two 'activity' lights for each port, plus a power light, plus 7 usable ports: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07HKSXVN7/ref=ppx_yo_d…

    • and steel housing.

What do people even use these for in 2022? Have not had a switch in the house for at least 20 years.

    • +1

      1 media centre NAS
      1 main backup server
      2nd backup downstairs.
      2 laser printers
      2 desktops
1 laptop - wifi is not strong to reach corner of my WFH room. Plan to have 2nd laptop there with LAN connection as well.
      Xbox
      PS5

Oh, also some security outdoor cameras - current on wifi but plan to wire them later when install more cameras.

WIFI isn't good enough to service all of those things? I don't know why anyone downvoted, I wasn't claiming you don't need a switch, was just asking WHY anyone would need one these days.

        • +2

Agree. Wifi isn't as strong. Especially when devices aren't in the same room. I just use wired for stuff like AV receiver, game consoles, TVs , PVRs, computers, NAS, File Servers, network Hifi, printers etc. All connected through a switch.

        • +5

While potentially, wifi can indeed service all those things, wireless connections, aren't as worry-free/reliable/bomb-proof as wired ethernet. In my household, everything that can be wired is actually wired. The wifi is just used for convenience. So yes, Wifi can and does work, but has it's own, not-insignificant drawbacks.

          • @tebbybabes: Fair enough, I don't see why there is drama for asking this though.

  • One of my TP-Link switches is from 2015. Still works flawlessly.

  • Dunno why this model keeps getting losted when the metal casing version will go for 20
