The Nile

In Pandemic, several virulent diseases have broken out simultaneously all over the world! The players are disease-fighting specialists whose mission is to treat disease hotspots while researching cures for each of four plagues before they get out of hand.

The game board depicts several major population centers on Earth. On each turn, a player can use up to four actions to travel between cities, treat infected populaces, discover a cure, or build a research station. A deck of cards provides the players with these abilities, but sprinkled throughout this deck are Epidemic! cards that accelerate and intensify the diseases' activity. A second, separate deck of cards controls the "normal" spread of the infections.

Taking a unique role within the team, players must plan their strategy to mesh with their specialists' strengths in order to conquer the diseases. For example, the Operations Expert can build research stations which are needed to find cures for the diseases and which allow for greater mobility between cities; the Scientist needs only four cards of a particular disease to cure it instead of the normal five—but the diseases are spreading quickly and time is running out. If one or more diseases spreads beyond recovery or if too much time elapses, the players all lose. If they cure the four diseases, they all win!

Is there an option in this game to lock down residents in their homes to attempt to slow the infection rate?

Who needs a game when we've been playing it in real life!
      Ha ha ha
Too much wine for me I think 😜🤪

The South Western Sydney edition of this board game is probably what you’re after. I hear there’s also a Zero Lockdown edition, revolving around the Delta outbreak at Bondi. If learning about white privilege is your thing, go for the latter.

      • hahah, so accurate.

You know how in Munchkin you team up to destroy whoever is coming first?

        That….but like the whole game.

        • well you've sold me!

Don’t think twice about this if you have Prime, fantastic game

  • Thanks - agreed a great game, especially at that price, but I ended up buying "World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King" (on backorder) instead, which whilst not currently a bargain, Amazon seems to have the cheapest price.

  • Good to have this around home just to get people into board games.

On that note you should try Sequence, it’s really good!

  • no point playing this game now since lockdown has finished……

  • is this good for two players?

    • It can be… but it can get frustrating with only two. It's certainly tougher.

    • Yeah it's fine 2 player. I suggest assigning the roles rather then blind picking them. Can make the game easier.

  • Does anyone know whether the seller is reputable? I've read comments in the past that some people receive fake board games from Amazon.

Looks like the party is over. If you're buying directly from Amazon AU your chances of getting a fake are (pretty) low I think. Even then, Amazon are pretty good with returns and refunds. The few times I asked for a refund or return I didn't have to prove anything. They either gave me a refund straight away or they sent me the postage slips to stick onto a box to return to them.
