Suggest a Microphone + Boom Arm for YouTube

Hey guys, I've just started doing some light YouTube desktop work and it's coming along but my audio sucks (using webcam to capture audio)

I was set to go and buy a Blue Yeti today until I saw some reviews saying they're pretty ordinary. I guess my budget is about $200 but if I don't have to spend that much I won't. Ideally getting a boom arm included in that budget, I've found a few for $50 on Amazon so that part is easy, just need the microphone and if I have to go over budget, then so be it.

Thanks in advance.

A Blue Snowball iCE will set you back ~$50-$80, closer to the $50 mark if you can wait around for an OzBargain deal. If not, grab one on Gumtree/FB Marketplace. It works and sounds really good, delivers really crisp audio that's more than enough for YT voiceover. And since you're currently using your webcam to capture your audio as well, have you considered instead using your phone's mic? That may be better, of course depending on your phone, but give it a go.

Thanks mate. I do actually own a Lavalier which I could use with my phone (it doesn't work on my PC) but then I have another element of moving the audio over to PC when editing, ensuring it's in sync with the video etc so I never went down that path. You are right now, even witout the lavalier my phone records clearer audio.

I'm actually leaning toward the R0DE mentioned above, plus being able to buy it from JB HI-FI is a nice bonus.

I've bought a few BoomArms from Swamp who are quick, and efficient. I am a Keyboardist/Guitarist, and mount the Boom Arm to my keyboard stand, and I run a Shure SM58 from it. So it needs to be a bit heavy duty etc.

Gee those are cheap for a brand name. Do you recall the model number of your Boom Arm? Would it be the CKMOVA SAS-2 by any chance? $75 delivered, that's less half the price of the RØDE

Ozbargain must be full of podcasters and what not, this has been the most effective response in a forum thread I've ever started. Value in every response! :)

      • Mine was half that price, but its only basic.
