Upgrade My Old Vernee X Pro Android Phone from Version 7+?

I have a good working android phone (Chinese brand) Vernee X Pro android version 7.1.1, last update Nov 2017.

The phone is still good and working well for general use, battery life of more than 2 days and 128 GB, 8 GB ram.

Vernee company has gone under and hence no support from manufacturer and so no upgrade to my android is now available.

I want to upgrade this phone to a new version of android and security updates since many apps are unable to use them due to android version incompatibility.

Need help from the forum, is it worth upgrading this phone or living with it, if I can upgrade then can you share some links where I can read and upgrade my android system.

Thank you all in advance.

XDA forums will be your only hope :/

Yeah and seems unlikely for such an obscure phone.

EDIT: found this thread.. but nothing really useful for the OP
      https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/vernee-x-pro-6-128-gb-roo…

Also just saw that it's a Mediatek Chipset, so even less likely that there will be Custom ROM support.

Vernee company has gone under and hence no support from manufacturer and so no upgrade to my android is now available.

I it was optimistic to expect manufacturer software support at all even within 6-12 months of the official release of the handset

  • Actually, the manufacturer just gave one upgrade support for the lifetime of this phone.

Their hardware is still very good, considering that battery life is going for 2 days and does not get hot when running google maps etc as well processor is Octa core.

      Consider yourself fortunate.
Unfortunately devices with MediaTek SoCs rarely get after-market support unless they're really popular.

Suggest next time you buy a Xiaomi that also has good hardware but also long term manufacturer software support, especially if you get a Qualcomm chipset device that will also get Custom ROM support after Xiaomi drop official support.

  • Just had a read through of some XDA threads, I would say you're better off upgrading to a better phone. Not really worth the trouble IMO.

Had a read through some of these, the phone isn't the most popular so there's not a lot of sources about upgrading this to a later version of Android.

If you do want to try and upgrade the firmware, get a new phone first. That way, you won't potentially end up with a dead phone and no backup.

    OK good advise

  • Vernee company has gone under and hence no support from manufacturer and so no upgrade to my android is now available.

Lenovo is a huge international company and they don't release any updates at all for the majority of their Android devices. Whatever it ships with is what you get.

Mediatek based devices are very bad for upgrade support, and manufacturers will often blame the hardware partner for not releasing code as a reason for no updates. Not sure why they partnered with them in the first place if it makes their products so disposable.

      For precisely that reason….
Support is expensive. The parts are also cheaper.

Agree, we need to be cautioned when buying cheap phone with great hardware and zero support or upgrades. Even my security patch is last updated in 2017, so many time feels venerable to download any apps or games.

good to give it to grandma who will only use for scrabble and making phone and whatsapp.
