ANZ Black Card Purchase Protection Insurance Experiences

Hey all. Brought a brand new pixel 6 pro and unfortunately accidentally dropped it on the concrete. I have made a claim using my credit card insurance which provides purchase protection for loss, theft and accidental damage for 90 days.

Part of the claim has been that I got a repair quote from a shop who have written it off as needing a full replacement due to the fact it is almost impossible to replace a pixel 6 pro screen and have everything back to working order.

I don't want to wait the full 10 days before buying a new one because the glass is started to fall out and get into my fingers and is becoming a nuisance.

My query is, has anyone had a similar claim and had any issues getting it approved? Should I just put up with it and wait or do you think I am safe to go grab a new one today?

I suggest you to contact Google for a quote to repair your phone, then send off to the Insurance Company for review. A random repair shop is Not the best place to get a quote for insurance claim. Especially an official repair only cost $479 in Australia. https://www.ubreakifix.com.au/products/pixel-6-pro-screen-re…

    • Thanks for that. Good point. They said a repair quote was required but didn't specify where from

  • Would you rather a full replacement or repair? If you can get the shop to provide their determination in full writing via letter or email then the insurance will likely just pay out the amount for a brand new phone. Otherwise if you get quoted for a repair they may just pay up to that amount in cash and ask you to handle the repair (which means you will be without a phone for even longer while you wait for repairs to be done).

If I were you, I'd just push to get a brand new one so I can go to any shop and buy it asap.

  • Yeah the repairer already gave me in writing I need a full new one and gave RRP price

    'accidentally threw it at concrete'

hmmmmmm lets hope the ANZ black team aren't on Ozbargain.
I don't think phones are designed to be thrown tbh.

We'll if they are snooping, that was just my way of saying I dropped it

I hope the claim is denied.

This type of reckless behaviour makes insurance expensive for everyone.

    • You've never dropped something?

  • Never would have thought people would take that so literally

You are dealing with insurance company, they will try their best to avoid paying you. So, just be careful when you file for claims, if you indicate you did THREW it in any way, that's not accidental damage anymore.

  • @ddilrat - Was your claim approved and paid? About to buy the Pixel 6a on my ANZ black rewards card. Just searching around to see which is the best card to put it on.
