Buying iPhone 13 then Trading in for iPhone 14

Hey everyone,

I've been considering buying the iPhone 13 Pro Max and I've been wondering whether it's worth it as I would want to trade it in for the iPhone 14 Pro Max when it comes out. Are the trade in prices going to be worth it? Do we know roughly what it will be worth? Or should I just wait.

TYIA.

it's probably not going to be worth it, trade ins are just to incentivise people who already have previous gen devices to shell out more for the latest model. if you can wait, just wait.

    • You do have a point. I guess the kicker is whether I really need the phone now and with the trade in I could be potentially more out of pocket

      • if you wait and the 14 is not that much better than the 13, you will be able to find a discounted 13 as retailers try to clear out old stock to make room for new stock.

        what's your current phone?

        • That's true too.

Currently using the S21 Plus but I need to replace my second phone which is an iPhone - albeit it still works

          Technically only 3 months away…

            @jnathanc: hold… if you can

          • @jnathanc: Any thoughts on S22 vs iPhone 13? Why do you have both android & ios?

            • @fredblogs: Work phone and personal. I just like having both ecosystems to play with I guess, doesn't hurt.

The S22 Plus wasn't a big enough upgrade for me to shift, and I just didn't feel like I needed the Ultra even after some thought. Also it's the first time in decades going to a phone that fits in my hand and isn't overbearing.

              What are you using now?

Source: Enthusiast and worked for Samsung for 10 years

              • @jnathanc: I bought a Pixel 6 but it was way too big so now back to my old S9. So now considering S22 vs iPhone 13

iPhones always sell out quick when they first come out. You may not be able to even get the iPhone 14 Pro Max in the storage you're after on release day until a month or so after.

My opinion is you only live once and smart phones bring you so much joy, you may as well get the phone you want now and upgrade later if you really want to. If the world ends in six months then the money you saved won't have done you nothing by not buying it.

I have bought 4 iPhones at launch including the 13. It’s never been an issue. Just preorder, you will be fine.

  • I'm in a similar situation. My iPhone 8 was on its last legs when the 13 was released. I held out, hoping to find a bargain. But the battered old 8 just keeps marching on, cracks and all, and now it's so close to the 14 coming out I'm hoping it holds together for a few more months.

I'll get the new model if it's a significant upgrade or look for a discounted 13 if I don't think the 14 is anything special.

  • Just lowball people on FBM or GT, plenty of peeps looking for cash, get serial no and check, only pay cash on pick up, preferably at their house, can stick your sim in while there and setup as new even.
Has worked for me for 50 plus iPhones/iPads.
