I know many recommend the Osprey Farpoint and Kathmandu Litehaul, but was wondering if there was something with more compartments?
Bonus points if anything currently or soon to be on sale of course :-p need it before end June (any EOFY bag sales?)

Farpoint 40 is the size of (or just under) the maximum dimensions for carry-on for most airlines. A solid bag that meets most of your needs however IMO its probably too big if you're also checking in bags. You might be better off with a smaller bag that can fit under seat in front of you and give you quick access to the things your kids need during a flight. Having said that, I bought one for one-bag travel during a deal here but I actually find it too big, and the hip belt annoying, and only used it once. Took it from car to hotel and back in the car again and never used it after that - what a bargain!

Fairly simple but the High Sierra backpacks are low cost and (in my experience) quite robust, and have done long haul travel with young kids for a decade. Moderate # of compartments.
