Infuse App Is Perfect for AppleTV and NAS, and Its Free!

Just sharing my recent find.

I did not want to install Plex Server on my NAS (TrueNAS) so I looked for an app that will show and play all my media from NAS via common storage protocols, like SMB ot NFS.

The Infuse does exactly this and is smart enough to merge embedded in video file metadata with external metadata (keep both settings On). Install it on Apple TV, add shared server account, and add your Movies and TVShows folders as Favourites.

Plus its free for me, all my stuff is .m4v or mp4, not free for playing .mkv. Also has MacOS/(Windows?) desktop apps with sync.

Infuse App Is Perfect for AppleTV and NAS, and Its Free!

The basic Infuse app has always been free (both iOS and macOS).
The PRO version can be obtained via In-App Purchase (IAP), which is not free.

    What am I missing?

  • What is wrong with VLC? Free, works on any platform and plays any format you'd throw at it.

I havent tried VLC. Infuse looks nice, same design as Apple's own apps.

Edit: OMG VLC is ugly AF, lol, watched on youtube

I love Infuse. As long as you can master the dark art of networking settings.

    • ? I did not touch any on AppleTV …

Is very good, a great replacement for Plex client on Apple TV - just give it your Plex Server details.. In particular plays 4K HDR files correctly with no purple/green casting.

  • I like the look of Infuse but is it just me, or is there no clear breakdown anywhere on their site of what’s included in the free version, vs specifically what features/functionality need the Pro version?
