Help - Looking for Suitable above-Fireplace 75-80" TV Mount

Per subject title, looking for some experienced suggestions on what product options are on the market for an above the fireplace large TV mount, expecting to sit a 75-80" TV.

The context here is I'm looking for a mount/bracket that allows height adjustment so that when the fireplace isn't in use I can pull the TV down to eye level (in front of the fireplace) for comfortable viewing, and then pop it up and out of the way if the fireplace is in use and simply tilt it downwards to suit viewing angle at that height.

Google has given me a couple of options but they're mostly either not suitable for large TVs or not local (mostly US only).
Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks all.

  • Just thought id also bandwagon this thread. I am looking for someone who has had a tv feature wall built with those fake fireplaces under them. if anyone can shed some light on them that would be great.

    • I think you'll have to clarify if you meant a fake fireplace as in just an LED display for ambience, or if you meant fake fireplace like a gas or electric fireplace. And also specifically, what part of that build are you looking for help about.

Given you're jumping on this thread rather than creating your own I assume you're also just wondering if there's options for a height adjustable mount?

    • I have my tv mounted above my Wood heater insert. The heater has a fascia designed to stop the heat from damaging the tv. It gets pretty hot when I load it up for the night. Tv is less than 2 foot above the fascia. No problems with it yet (been up for 2 years).
If you had a wall made up for a gas heater, they could probably insulated the wall or flue so it doesn’t hurt your tv. I suspect whoever would be making your wall would design it with the tv in mind.

      • would you be able to share which heater you're using, and maybe an online example of what that fascia looks like? is it just a mantel piece?
this is something else that i'm also trying to learn about, i.e. protecting electronics from the heat.

  • Op, could you just unmount it and put it on a tv unit during the warmer months? Seems much easier.

    • Hmm, the issue is the living room space has been designed in a way so that there wouldn't be space for an entertainment unit to put the TV on. Basically that wall where the TV/fireplace goes has been designed specifically in that configuration, but the issue I have with that is obviously viewing angle of the TV above the fireplace.

Thanks for the suggestion though. I guess an alternative is to just get rid of the fireplace, which I will do if there isn't a better idea.

EDIT: Not to mention I wouldn't know what to do with the unit when it's not in use haha.

      • Ok. I assumed there would be enough space on the hearth.
Is it a real fireplace with a chimney?

Edit: some mounts have a tilt function for better viewing angle

        • Yes, there's a chimney and it'll be a gas insert fireplace.

A lot of mounts have the tilt function, but I was hoping there would be one that has both tilt and height adjustment function. Seems like technology isn't quite there yet :(

  • You can get Tv mounts that tilt down about 15degrees, cost about $45-60 from amazon or selbys. Alternatively, do you have enough wallspace to mount it beside the fireplace? TV above fireplace has always been impracticable, so I don't know why people like it. Perhaps consider having a long slim fireplace?

    • Yeah absolutely agreed, I don't really like above fireplace either to be honest and called this out on day one, but there's two reasons why we had to settle for this design:

      1. This is part of a renovation of an existing house where the chimney was right in the middle of the room, so we couldn't just move the fireplace to one side and needed to have it sit right in the middle, which in turn meant we had to put the TV above the fireplace, because either side of the fireplace didn't make sense when considering where the sofa and rest of the furniture will be in the room.

      2. We like a symmetrical room design for the living.

Our nominated fireplace by our architect is the Heat and Glo Mezzo 1600. Not sure if there's one that's slimmer/shorter than that. Would be great if anybody knows any recommendations. (Note yes I am asking our architect the same question, am just doing a little research of my own).

    • I like it because you can watch your TV, get the full warmth of the fire and watch the fire during ad breaks.

You can also put a video of a fireplace on the TV and make it look like a double decker fireplace.

  • Are you able to submit a floor plan of the room? That may help identify alternate arrangements.
