Best High End Smartphone ($500$800) in 2022

Moderators at OzBargain are now running yearly polls to decide the best products in popular categories that get asked repeatedly in the forum. Our aim is to have a central thread where users can vote on the items, suggest options and also change their vote throughout the year. For more information on how these polls work, or if you want to suggest a new poll that isn't covered already, please refer to our announcement thread here.

Question

What is your favourite high end smartphone, (priced between $500 to $800) in 2022?

The Winner of last year's poll for high end phone was the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G followed by the Google Pixel 5 and Google Pixel 4a 5G. The iPhone SE (2nd Gen) took fourth place.

Remember: You can change your votes at anytime, and suggest more than 1 product over the course of the poll.

How do I suggest products to What Should I Buy polls?

If you have a product that you would like to suggest for the poll (that is currently not in the Poll Options), you'll need to make a top-level comment (i.e. not replying someone else's comment) and fill up "Suggestions" text box just above your comment:

Suggestion box

Do try to make a sensible suggestion (e.g make sure the phone is still available to purchase) and include a brief argument as to why you would recommend the product. You can only suggest 1 product at a time.

Pixel 6 is concieved by many in the flag for bargain category.

That's ridiculous.. who suggested the ZenFone with no VoLTE support?

    • @scrimshaw ?

    • +1

The ZenFone is there as a "Seed" option, that is, it was added in when the poll was created.

      All seed options are:

      • recently posted as deals and are relatively recent models
      • always start off with zero votes

and it's up to the community to discuss and vote what is best, or put in new suggestions when new devices come out over the course of the year.

    • Specifications vs reliability absolute crap (Massive WiFi Issues over multiple revisions of Software's, VoLTE a deal breaker) Currently ZenFone 8 which is less the 16 months it died with no option to recover its with ASUS service for over 10 days with no response, so we are cutting our losses - Paid $999 so stay clear of the phone

  • In fact I will give code that google had send me for 20% off if you wanna use it. Just message me OP.

    • has anyone taken you up on that offer? i would be interested

      • I couldn't message you so just message me else I can just reply with code here if you want

    • please let me know if still available. I would be keen. Thank you

    Suggested Samsung Galaxy S21

The Samsung Galaxy S21 has fallen to a new low price of just $592.80, or $624 from Harvey Norman. Pretty good value for an older flagship device with a great camera. It also undercuts the Galaxy S21 Fan Edition pricing.

Downside: the battery life isn't that amazing and the chipset isn't all that great at power efficiency, but it is a flagship phone at mid-range pricing.

It should get Android updates till Android 15 as Samsung promised 4 years of updates for the device (keeping in mind this phone was released in Jan 2021).

Downside: sells out in 24 hrs at that price

No love for the Motorola Edge 30 Pro ?

Seems to be under $800 quite often at JB since its release.

    • Was $499 a month or so ago

    Suggested Samsung Galaxy A52S 5G

Rather than the A53 with its wimpy exynos chip, I would suggest the A52S.

  • I like the Xiaomi phones. For me the Pixel misses the mark with subpar charging speeds, ugly looks and average performance, compensated for with a clean OS at least.

    Suggested iPhone 11

iPhone 11 is within this price range now.

  • Suggested Motorola Edge 30 Pro

The Moto Edge 30 Pro with latest snapdragon 8gen1 CPU has regularly been under $800 at JB.
Is back at $799 from 21/07.

This price range would be mid range for me imo.

    Suggested Google Pixel 6a

    Suggested Nothing Phone (1)

I'm keen, will probably replace my op6 if it dies. Doesn't feel like it's dieing to me yet though haha.

Where is Pixel 6 under 800?

    • Double stack with recent gift card promos would get the Pixel 6 on par at ~$800 ($999 less 10% off Click Frenzy code less 10% if you’re paying using Ultimate gift cards by buying them via Giftz

Or getting it outright through this deal for $704.16 via Amazon UK

      • +5

Yes im not sure that if the price is only that low when all those planets align it's quite fair to include

  • Suggested iPhone SE 2022

with the A15 Bionic chip, it's basically the same as the 13 without the high-end cameras and the infinity screen (is that what it's called?)

  • Xiaomi mi 11

  • Pixel 7 - Easy to find discounts to hit the price bracket.

  • +1

Currently it's the same price or cheaper with deals at the moment then the Google Pixel 6. Hoping new 6 Pros will be discounted soon

    • Where are you finding it for less than $800?

      • at JB, the previous week … for P7..
        google nest gen 2
        google chromecast 4k
        $100 jb voucher
        $250 trade-in bonus

now just $300 trade-in bonus, so that's $699 if you have a phone worth more than $10
