Costco TV Return without Box - within 90 Days

Would like to return 75" Samsung QLED with the Electronics return period.
Youtube casting from phone does not work and I have to power off the tv in the wall before making it work.

Also I am unhappy with the Samsung software in general.

I have disposed of the packaging including the box.

Has anyone returned without the box

What did they say when you called on OP's behalf?

    There's a name for this: buyer's remorse.

      or zero cost rental?

      • On Average have paid 5% more to buy at Costco plus the membership fees

Has anyone not returned anything? In the US all stores provide a return for everything

        • -1

Last I checked we aren’t in the US????? Might as well say in North Korea, people get shot for asking for a refund…so why doesn’t it happen here?

        • If you are paying 5% more for the stuff you buying at Costco you might be ordering online and including delivery. Not everything is cheaper but a lot of stuff we have bought is; especially if they are having a special. Like everything, though, it pays to shop around. Would be interested to know which products you find more expensive.

The thing to keep in mind with Costco is:
          - they don’t tend to have the latest, best model.
          - they don’t have the full range of a brands like Apple
          - you can, usually, get things cheaper in store because deliver charges aren’t built in
          - if you want to return something you have to work out how to get it back to base.
          - trawling through the scratch and dent area can get you an even better bargain. But you do need to know the prices; they may not be discounted.
          - if something ends in .97 then they are getting rid of that line.

I’ve returned a couple of things and never had to include packaging. However, they do need all the bits.

There are only two of us but we get our $60 bucks worth. If only in the tastings and the entertainment value of watching people filling huge trolleys.

@try2bhelpful: I guess the deals may vary. I may have been unlucky but Most of the time I find Costco expensive.

            Example:
            Costco $1,649.99 - 2021 LG 75 Inch TM100 ThinQ 4K TV 75UP8000PTB
            https://www.costco.com.au/Smart-TVs-Audio-Cameras/Smart-TVs/…

            JB HI FI - $1,495 - 2021 LG UP80 75" 4K Ultra HD Smart TV MODEL: 75UP8000PTB
            https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lg-up80-75-4k-ultra-hd-sm…

Both include free Delivery and Costco is 10% more = $1500 + $150 = $1650 People are intelligent so why would anyone pay an annual membership fee plus 5% to 10% more? I would say good customer service and peace of mind return policy.

Purchased iPhone 13 & Air Pods 3 at Costco at full price ; Could have got a 5% - 10% discount based on store promotions but chose to buy from Costco for peace of mind. I guess some people in this forum do not understand the concept.

              @utsc: Thanks for the examples.

Personally, I wouldn’t buy a TV off them because they don’t tend to have things like the LG C1. If you looked at the B model you can get the C, cheaper, if you get the right deal going elsewhere. So, absolutely, agree with you there.

They, often, have deals on iPhones that drop them down but, certainly, if you include shipping with them it can sting.

I’ve found things like their Instant pots, the Phillips pasta maker, etc can get you down to some really good deals but you need to buy in store, you need to know what you want and they need to be on special.

They are, also, good for cheeses, pancake mixes, Ghirardelli brownies, Godiva, etc; especially when on special. Last time we checked their Metamucil prices were much lower than going to Chemist Warehouse. Alcohol seems to be well priced, as well, with some interesting overseas options.

The returns policy is an attraction. If this turns out to be a dud I’ll return it. So far, fingers crossed, I’ve done fairly well.

The thing with Costco is you can, never, guarantee what is available this week will continue to be available. A fair bit sticks but I’ve had a few products disappear never to return.

  • Or call them, they have a support number to talk to a human.

I know not everyone can do it but you really should try to keep your packaging for your large flatscreen tv.

    • We have an overhead above our garage. We keep packaging up there and then periodically, throw a bunch of it out at the council recycle station.

I, certainly, would keep packaging if you have a 90 day return window.

      • Even if you keep it just in case you have to move. Large flatscreens are pretty awful to transport around even with the box and everything. I can't imagine the horrors of moving an expensive tv without it. I tend to keep a lot of packaging as we have a spare room. I try to keep packaging for all monitors and tvs.

        • It was scary enough putting the base on our new TV and moving it from horizontal to vertical. It is a bit of the issue with using the original packing. I wouldn’t take the stand off to move. You need to find a good way to protect it in the upright position. Would be interested to know what movers do?

          This gives an idea.

          • @try2bhelpful: Maybe depends on the base. Some stick out a lot. I haven't had to move a tv after setting it up but I still think keeping the box is a good idea.

            • @ozbs25: I would, certainly, keep the packaging.

              For transport, perhaps;
              - slide the plastic bag back on,
              - use the foam packing for the top
              - leave base on and bubble wrap round the base or break up some of the foam to pack in.
              - tape the cardboard box around it
              - only transport upright and ensure it is held, firmly in place.

Ensure it can’t slide, or flex, during transport.

We moved our 55” into the snug to put the 65” in the main part of the house. Just carrying it across the room give me the heebee geebees.

…………………………………….the seller cannot refuse to give a refund, or reduce the amount of the refund, because you did not return the items in the original packaging or wrapping.

    https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/consumer-protection/original-…

    Thank you Google.

    • +3

You blanked out some pretty critical bits with your dots there.

      Original Packaging
If a product does not meet a consumer guarantee the seller cannot refuse to give a refund, or reduce the amount of the refund, because you did not return the items in the original packaging or wrapping.

The link for consumer guarantee then clearly defines it as "Your consumer rights under the ACL" with detailed descriptions of what those rights are. OP's situation is closer to change of mind than a specific fault unless the product made guarantees about the performance of youtube casting from a phone. In which case, the seller is offering a return policy in addition to a consumer guarantee and is not necessarily bound by ACL for returns under that policy.

Best bet would be to check with the seller.

      • +1

        Absolutely this.

The section Hithere referenced is specifically for faulty products, OP's post is not detailed enough to determine it's a TV issue or a user issue.

  • My reply to OP was about not having the original packaging to return the item in only.

The reason for them returning the purchase, change of mind or otherwise is not relevant to if they still have the original packaging or not IMO.

    • The seller cannot refuse to give a refund, or reduce the amount of the refund, because you did not return the items in the original packaging or wrapping.

      IF

If a product does not meet a consumer guarantee

You can’t just eliminate the prerequisite for that clause, since it doesn’t apply if the prerequisite isn’t met (say, change of mind).

E.g.,”If the payment has been made in full, customer can take the goods home” is vastly different to “Customer can take the goods home”.

  • Update.

Costco Manager got repair organized via their sales channel. The contractor came this morning and said he was going to order a new system board and would install it once the parts arrive from the manufacturer. If the problem is not resolved, will provide a refund without the box as long as I have all the parts (remote, power cord, and legs). Since the issue has been logged before the end of the return period they said not to worry about missing the deadline. I am happy with the resolution as I saved 2 X transport cost ($160)

I purchased a fridge from Harvey Norman and repair twice and the problem still remains. I had to discard food 3 times and also bought a new fridge. Might have to deal via Consumer Protection. In comparison, Costco is great and worth the membership and price premium

I’ve never had any problems returning stuff to them. They usually ask as a reason but it seems to be more for general reference.

      • +1

I agree. Decided to try repair given the hassle of removing from the wall mount and transporting twice and mounting again.

        • +1

Best of luck with the repair.

  • The Chromecast and Airplay on our Samsung TV also do not work. Did the repair help?
