Cross-Platform Application Recommendation for Learning New English Words

Sometimes we might encounter some words that we don't know while reading.

My goal is to right-click or highlight it and then add it to a library/list so that I can do a recap as a flashcard-like practice to improve my vocabulary.

I have been googling and trying different applications but not one really does the job

Some come with a native vocabulary list that I don't need or do not have a native dictionary feature.

Ideally, it will be a web-based as well as iOS application.

  • There are Chrome and Firefox extensions that do just that, try searching for "vocabulary" on their respective extensions / Chrome webstore pages.

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/vocabulary

    • Good tool but prefer a cross-platform app

  • FYI iOS has this lookup feature built-in already. Simple select the word and choose "lookup" or "translate". It'll give you a pop up with definition/translation and more info.

May I offer you my most enthusiastic contrafibularities for your efforts to improve your vocabulary

  • Anki or memrise. Flashcards with spaced repetition for learning anything really.

    • Memrise is a good tool to learn a new language but does it come with a self-building vocabulary feature? I did try before this post. thanks
