Bricks and Mortar Stores That Carry Mattresses in a Box

I'm looking to get a low cost mattress in a box (ideally queen size) for a property where delivery is not quick, cheap or easy. I'm looking to grab a mattress in a box from a store and take it to the property myself. Looking for options in Sydney, Taree, Forster, or Newcastle. But potentially also Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie or Gold Coast. I may not have time to get it delivered to a different location for transport first.

To me it looks like the kmart ones are only online, but has anyone ever seen them instore? I know Aldi sometimes carries them, but can't see any coming up soon. Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

    IKEA?

They’re rolled pretty compact and easy to move.

    • Some are - not all! If you buy the thicker/heavier ones they come flat.

I've been having a look at the website, and they specify which ones are rolled, which is good. May well be an option, though I'm not sure how comfortable they'll be.

IKEA mattresses are awesome for the price. I strongly recommend a mattress pad as well, it bumps up the price considerably but makes all the difference for comfort. Absolutely worth it.

You can pop into a store and check them all out. They have everything on display and then simply buy and load up car if you're happy with it.

While you're at it, grab their memory foam pillows with cooling gel on one side. So so so good!

          • @Hybroid: I have an Ikea mattress and it’s amazing. I don’t understand why people would buy super expensive mattresses - my Ikea mattress was about $600 (Hyllestad) and is incredible for the price. Note this was sold flat, so may not be an option for you.

I think Fantastic Furniture or Amart did. Can't remember which I went to LOL

Ergoflex in Rutherford - give them a buzz/email as we went out to pick up ours from there (so we could test the mattress out first). They were super helpful/easy to deal with.

Koala is supposedly free anywhere within 15 days (makes me wonder what the markup is on their mattresses to do that).

Fantastic Furniture have them and their site shows which stores have which mattress available for pickup.

For something you spend 1/3 of your life on i'd certainly look at getting something a bit better than a mattress in a box (side support is superior with the b&m store bought ones).

Ikea ones are ok, but i'd personally spend a bit more ~$800-$1200 and get something that won't ruin your back/neck

    • You're entirely correct. We have pretty schmick mattresses at home. It's for a property that isn't used a lot at the moment - deceased estate that myself and family are gradually cleaning up. Sometimes there's a fair few of us there at once and other times no one for ages. That said though, I'd pay a decent ammount to avoid back pain even for a short period.

      • Ahh fair enough
If its infrequent then go for it

  • How long term is it - considered a camping one from Anaconda?

    • Yeah, probably a bit longer term that that. Sometimes we're there for 1-2 weeks at a time. I guess a camping one would be good once we don't need it anymore though.

There are a few places on the highway on the highway at Raymond Terrace. I would use google maps to virtually drive along the highway there and see what places are there and see if they sell them as this will probably be the closest to the Myal Lakes area.

    • Thanks!
