Help to Opt out of Kogan Mobile

Hi all

I am with Kogan mobile. I've been on holidays and it's time to switch from Kogan to another operator, however my account is deactivated and I am unable to receive calls/SMS. To switch providers, usually an SMS is sent. Kogan is advising to recharge the account to resume the service, however since I am switching providers, I don't want to recharge, as the minimum recharge is $15.
Is there anyway to receive text messages or recharge to bare minimum so that I can receive text message for SIM swap?
Thanks

  • Kogan is advising to recharge the account to resume the service,

Is this what Kogan told you directly when you asked them about this?

    • Correct, over the phone.

      • They don't own your number. Have you tried porting out?

  • Just port out, you can reply to the text even if you have no credit.
I'm fairly certain you'll receive that message too, it's on another system from what I've heard.

  • how long has your account been "deactivated".
when you don;t renew and your pre-paid expires, you can still receive SMS.
deactivation sounds like the next step after expiry.

  • I think you are trapped forever in the Kogan Matrix

    • The 'Koganoverse' is a never ending, never completing Escherian return-cycle.

In it, your number continues to exist long after you die (whether it be from old age, or frustration, in your attempts to teleport out).

If my attempts to port to a Helstra MVNO failed, I'd pay the $15 and try again.

After trying that, we would all forgive you if you began to question your own sanity, or were to end up in a padded room trying to contact Kogan Support, in perpetuity.

Not sure which would be more fruitful :-(

  • i guess you switching to a network owned by Vodafone, just reply the message, it should be good to go

OP, send me a private message if you're unable to resolve your problem without throwing $15 dollars at it. I have a couple of vouchers from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/681147 that I haven't used yet, and I'd rather give you one of them than see you wasting money unnecessarily. (Unlike the current voucher offers, these can be used to recharge an existing service.)

Thanks all, the issue was sorted, spoke to Kogan support and they resumed the service for 24 hours, and I was able to receive calls/texts, received the port-in next from Amaysim and now waiting for the transfer to complete.

    Appreciate everyone's support :)
