When All Energy Providers Will Update Their Tarrifs to Make an Informed Decision?

Hi everyone,

So as everyone knows some energy providers said they were going to hike up their prices shortly due to the global events.

Reamped was one of the first to move and increase their prices.

I'm a Reamped customers and they increased my tarrifs, I'm thinking to move somewhere else but I'm worried that I will move to another energy provider only for them to also hike up their prices shortly after.

So I guess ideally, it would be good to wait till all energy providers update their prices and then find the best deal.

Any idea from what date all tarrifs will be updated across all the providers?

Thanks

The new standing offers have to be implemented by 1 July.

Thanks mate. Yeah I heard that some big players were going to update their price mid June. I guess by July everyone would have updated their tarrifs. I guess I'll just wait for now and see how things look like in July

I was in the same boat. Early this month, I got a notification Reamped is upping my rates, quite similar to others in the forums recently. I have moved to Alinta and thinking I will just move again when it settles, which I am guessing will be sometime in July. The transition seems quite painless so far, very much like porting sim cards every few months. :)

I haven't received my final bill from Reamped though, fingers crossed I will get all my prepaid credits refunded as easy as their support claimed it would be.

    • Has Alinta already changed there prices?

    • Have you considered that Alinta charges a $179 disconnection fees? https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/plan?id=ALI13091MRE&postco…

Disconnection fee is usually when you specifically call up and ask to have electricity disconnected from the premises. This is because your Retailer needs to get the Distributor (or their representative) to come out and physically disconnect the supply, which costs money, of course.

I don't know why anyone would get their supply disconnected. Renovations/demolition, maybe? Even if you're moving out you usually leave the supply connected and just get a final meter read (which on the plan you linked would cost $12.79).

Also be careful what you leave in your links - you've exposed your postcode with the link you shared (unless you changed it/provided a false post code).

    • hey @Geek - how long did you have to for prepaid credits to come back?

      • +1

I just got my final invoice today. Apparently, I still owe them $9 after all my prepaid credits.

  • Damn. Discover told me prices were going up 100% so I just changed to ReAmped. Maybe that was a bad move?

My main goal was to not join a Chinese owned company.

    • You might consider one of the suppliers who are smaller and focused on community sustainability.
Off the top of my head diamondenergy.com.au, energylocals.com.au and enova.com.au
Prices are competitive, they favour buying power from local wind and solar farms, and the profits go back to Australia.

For the $20 a quarter difference one way or the other that chasing the best deal (and being stuffed when it expires) I just decided to leave it with these guys as long as they are local and competitive. If I end up paying a bit more because they aren't the fraction of a cent cheapest Hong kong owned flashy marketers? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ At least they employ locals and the profits get taxed here.

If they aren't competitive for a couple of quarters I'll move.

  • most providers have plans that let you lock in rates for 12 months. they will usually be more expensive than their 'flexible rate' plan, at least today; but may not be in 6 months time. If you want that security then sign up to a 12 month plan. If you want to keep hunting the cheapest rates from time to time, then you basically have to just spend 10 or 20 minutes every few weeks comparing and switching

    • That's a good point, thanks for point that out mate

It was funny to me, when I found reamped plans to be cheap for me back in April, requested referrals on ozbargain, then by the time I got the referral link the tarrif was changed and no longer competitive.

All in a span of a week. Eeek.

  • Just keep switchin or let https://choice.billhero.com.au/ do it for you

    • Interesting platform, thanks a mil mate.

So if read correctly, you pay annual fixed fee & they guarantee min savings of $100, you're making profit by signing up? LOL

      • You could do it yourself and save the fee

  • Can someone confirm sauce for date of change? Ie. do you have to have made the change today to "lock in" lower prices?
