How to Avoid Airtasker Fee?

I heard that Airtasker is taking 33% commission on all transactions now. Does anyone know if there's a way to avoid paying this?

    That'll be 33% please.

    • He said he want to avoid 33%! :)

You can always cancel the job and pay cash. But then you risk a shitty job as they won’t worry about the feedback. I’ve done it before for a job that lasted a few days after the guy worked for two days, we kind of trusted each other and we both saved money.

    • +1

Exactly. That works well. Even if you do through Airtasker you do not get much coverage if job is not done well.

Airtasker has become far too greedy. Try advertising jobs on Gumtree instead, include photos and ask for estimates.

    • +2

Yep, nothing could go wrong on gumtree.

Meh, I use it all the time and never had an issue. Not hard to weed out/ignore the timewasters.

Airtask went IPO at $1.16 in March last year, and its share price is at ~$0.40 today. Unfortunately for a public company it's their obligation to the share holders to increase profit.

      • +3

Yeah but there is smarter ways to increase profit. 33% will turn away a lot of customers as less people will go thru airtasker when they don’t have to pay much more to reputable companies.

OUCH - still a better love story than LUNA though.

        • I liked the idea of Luna: a stable-coin that is automatic.
Seems like it was deeply flawed, and didn't really have a backing. It was just ripe to get shorted by the whales, and that's what happened. It took out the regular folk, and made Bitcoin enter a bear market.

The worse part is Tether. It is basically a scam. But one of those too big to fail scenarios.
They have "some" backing, but ultimately they can get shorted too. And the other day, some whales dumped it which wiped off USD $10 Billion from it. So while Bitcoin was trying to rise/correct from the Luna debacle… it's been hit again. Moving from ~$40k to ~$25k value, and likely to keep moving lower and stay there for a while.

In the past, I recommended TrueUSD or USD-Coin. But risk has gone up exponentially for all stable coins, alt coins, and Etherium and Bitcoin. So people beware. In a nutshell, rektrading is doing it tough these days.

Set your price as $10 for a “consultation fee”, exchange phone numbers and arrange it privately.

Get them to pay the $10 on completion on airtasker so you can get reviews etc.

  • They have a sliding fee structure now.
The higher your rating… the lower the fee.

I am also having many issues with airtasker. The first job the guy did it half way and said he wants more money and had a attitude , 2nd job a painter did one coat paint is some part of the room instead of 2 coats and it was inconsistent painting , 3rd job another painter came and did nothing staring at wall for 1.5 hour on one wall and didn’t do anything then did inconsistent painting then asked for more money extra $500 and walked off the job and have problems trying to cancel task and still waiting for air tasker customer support to cancel task and now to settle the issue I’m going to pay quite a bit of money but it’s not resolved as airtasker is still holding my money.
I am so turned off from airtasker to use them again . It’s better off if u need to use it pay for small jobs not big jobs as u will end up stressed out with these scam tradies .

So 33% for "tasker", and there is also a sclaed dollar fee for the job poster too.

Shares floated on the ASX $0.65/share, this morning are $0.41; need to fatten the bottom line somehow

    No thanks.

  • Share your number as an image.

Sometimes they figure it out and ban you … easy to make a new account though.

Just add the text "Are you human?" and the filter won't know what to do!

Sign up to your local community facebook group - that's how I found a local plumber and local landscaper to do a few jobs around my place.

The good ones usually end up getting spruiked on the page when someone asks for recommendations.

Unfortunately if you use their platform to get jobs - they have their fair share of the commission stated by their site. I suggest to use the opportunity to do a good job for client and share your business cards for each interaction - if the job price is fixed price, offer discount off to future jobs without airtasker.

  • All of these platforms try and filter out anything that could identify your private contact details. You need to be very cunning to put these things in some other format that the algorithm won’t pick up. Unfortunately it takes a like minded person on the other end to decipher that code. Having said that the platform does deserve something for bringing people together with a need and a solution don’t ya think?

Another option is to book something, make contact then cancel and deal direct once contact has been made. If you can.

  • I use Hipages and FB groups.

  • Don't use airbases simple.

I've used Airtasker a few times and each time it gets more expensive. I hadn't realized that they charge the tasker 33%

It's a great way for getting small jobs done, but the cost isn't worth it anymore.

33% is absolutely crazy. I’ve only used it twice - once it was 15% and another time 20% and I thought that was steep. Surely they’ll have a massive drop in business?

OP only way I can think of is to sneakily add in other details in the ad if possible

  • when did 33% start?

  • I've been thinking about this - Last week I posted a task and it was completed a few days ago. Based on the 33% for the tasker, his fee would have been $49.50 (out of the $150 task) and then on top of that, I paid as my fee, $19.50, so the company got $69 in total. What a ripoff.

  • Yep, Airtasker sucks. Especially for the taskers with so many tasks misrepresented, they end up working flat out for bugger all money. Only thing it is useful for is gaining new customers by giving them your card after completing the job, sometimes you get a well paid job or a nice bonus but the site does attract a lot of stingebuckets who want everything done for nothing.
