The Push-Up Challenge, Fund Raising for Suicide Prevention & Mental Health Awareness. Join the OzBargain Team!

I came across The Push-Up Challenge last month. Basically the participants are pledged to do 3,139 push-ups over 24 days (1-2 June 2022) as part of fund raising effort to raise awareness of mental health issues & prevent suicide. The money raised will be donated to Lifeline or Movember. Why push-ups? I guess healthy body healthy mind — having daily exercise does help to keep your mind away from nasty thoughts.

OzBargain will be doing its annual End of Financial Year charity donations later next month. The charity selection is going to be a bit different this year, and I'll announce it later. Meanwhile I think The Push-Up Challenge is a worthwhile cause and have signed up to do the push-ups. 3,139 push-ups over 24 days is only 131 push-ups a day (or 150 a day, if resting every Sunday), which can be spread over the waking hours. Moreover, push-ups can also be substituted with squats or sit-ups.

So I ended up creating a team for OzBargain — if you are interested to participate and fund-raise for mental health awareness as well, feel free to join!

The Push-Up Challenge -- Join My Team

For those who rather donate to OzBargain and not see the ads here, you can now donate to Team OzBargain and turn off ads in your profile settings. I am hoping to raise some from the community, in addition to the donations we are planning to do for EoFY 2022.

Do note that a "team" can have maximum 10 members. If we do have more than 10 people wanting to participate, we can create a "community" covering multiple teams.

I started training for this last week. I managed to do 100 the first day. The second and 3rd day I was kinda stuffed with sore arms and chest. 4th day I did 60. Today I did 80. The night is still young, or maybe I should just donate instead. :)

    • I've also been trying over the last couple of days. I just do 20 push-ups every 90 minutes to 2 hours, which makes doing 150 a day achievable. I guess working from home helps.

Do you accept Bitcoin or XMR?

    • No Bitcoins or NFT's. Just push-ups will do.

Bitcoin was good enough for Ukraine.

Ukraine Readies NFT Sales as Crypto Donations Top $60 Million
The Ukrainian government will soon end its museum NFT sale
It’s also preparing to give away crypto to 66,000 refugees

Ukraine is launching a web page for selling the estimated 300 nonfungible tokens it has received in donations to help in the nation’s war effort.

The NFTs include a donated CryptoPunk that is expected to fetch about $200,000, according to Alex Bornyakov, deputy minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. Only between 5% and 10% of the donated NFTs are valuable, he said in an interview. The Web page, which could be started within the week, will also offer 10 NFT collections created by independent companies that have pledged all the proceeds to Ukraine.

It would be a shame for OZB to not tap the Bitcoin industry for donations.

We aren't the one taking donations — The Push-Up Challenge (charity organisation) is. Besides, Ukraine is getting a lot of international donations where cryptocoin makes sense. On the other hand, any donation over $2 to DGR is tax deductible, which makes more sense if in AUD.

    3,139 push-ups over 24 days

You do realise you’re are asking KFC, Maccas, Dominos fans (a large population of OzD?) to do this? It’ll be tough…

    Anyways, great cause!

Might as well shave off the belly for a good cause. Then pack it back on when a new deal gets posted

Some people exercise in order to eat fried chicken & pizza. Myself included :)

      • Converts to ~131 push ups each day… 🥵

  • This is encouraging me to get back into the gym routine. Went from 4 days a week to 1 visit a week or two 😪

I'm waiting for an OzBargain 50% off deal, making it just 1569.5 push-ups

I am hoping for a reduction as well. 3139 is the number of people we have lost to suicide in 2020. That's 3139 too many.

I'm behind a bit cause went on holidays. got to say the website is the worse
