When Is The Best Time to Port Your Mobile Phone Number?

Has anyone noticed longer wait times if you port closer to the end of the time frames listed?

Porting operates:

Monday to Friday - 08:00 to 20:00 AEST

Saturdays - 10:00 to 18:00 AEST

Sundays and selected public holidays - Not available

I left an Optus to Vodafone port to the last minute today around 7:00PM and usually since it is cross-carriers I would expect it to happen within minutes, but boy was I wrong. I'm still sitting here at 8:30PM twiddling my thumbs.

Does it still port if I am at the end of the time period or will it bump me to the next day?

From what I can tell, it looks like the temporary number is now disconnected which means my port is half-done. However, this is very strange and unusual. I'm hoping nothing has gone wrong at the last minute…

What time do you guys normally port? It seems like less goes wrong if you port at the start of the day rather than during the night.

  • It can take 15 mins to 4 hours for the transfer to be complete.

Think it should still happen if you started within those timings. Also try restarting your phone, might jig it a little.

Initiated Saturday morning around 10. It still took four transfer days (i.e. exclude Sunday) to port from Woolworths to Boost this month. However the actual transfer between the two SIMs was instant.

My exp told me that some Telcos do. Optus to Amaysim on a Sunday in 2 mins. Maybe it is an automated internal process. The timeframe is also loose on other days.

  • I always try and port first thing in the morning Monday -> Thurs - that way way if something hits the fan I don't risk losing mobile service over the weekend/don't have to deal with weekend muppets at call centre

  • Earliest time possible, they will do it right away.
when i waited around lunch, it took like 4-5 hours to port.

From a Telstra perspective… best to do it in the morning as that’s when there’s minimal loads on the systems. Don’t do it after lunch, that’s usually when our offshore agents log on. Don’t do it Friday’s, because if it goes to shit, might not be able to be fixed until Monday

  • Went through today, it's all good.

I might do it straight after the workday ends, e.g. 5PM, next time.

My number recently got ported in about 5 mins at like 1 am. I don't know how but I question the operating time's companies list now.
