1 Cent Transactions to Get ING Conditions?

Currently overseas for a year and i am hoping to keep using my ING to withdraw fee free cash but i need to have 5 transactions per month. Is there any way i can “buy” something for very cheap? How do others do bare minimum spend without physically going to a store?

You probably could just print a black and white document at Officeworks?
0.15 only and then never pick it up.

Maybe there are cheaper things but this one for sure you can do 100% online

Not a bad idea. I could also print something to make someone smile!

Add your card to Beem three times and your transactions are done.

    • Never heard of it but it seems can only sign up when in Australia

  • My understanding is that if you met your conditions last month then you gain access to all of the benefits this month. If that is the case then you should be able to buy from a store internationally. I assume that international transactions still count towards your five transactions.

I've been meeting the spend requirement by buying cheap Lotto tickets online (~$3). It's really throwing away money but at least I get a kick out of them. :)

I have lived in KL for the last three years and I simply use the card 5 times at the start of each month at a 7/11 or similar for something cheap like a drink or an ice cream. The 5 spends do not need to be in Australia.

      That's a useful confirmation.

Prime candidate for account closure though… ING are only meant to service people permanently living in Australia.

      • Looks like ING will be checking the db for any LunarBoogies soon

        Second this.

My parents, who are non-residents and have ING account for everyday spending in Australia, have been dealt a lot of grief. ING policy is 'hostile' to non-residents.

ING locked up their accounts due to inactivity (border closure). They can't access their funds, can't even log into the mobile app. Phone call is the only way to reach ING and this has been challenging with their limited English. The amount of red tapes involved is astounding and they have played hard ball when told some of the 'requested' documents simply do not exist.

Working with them to get their funds out of ING who clearly don't want them as customers.

  • Yikes. Didn't know any of this.

Anyway, I should have clarified that I remain a resident of Australia. Just like the OP. In his case, he is going overseas for one year, in mine it has been three.

I've returned to Australia every two months, so from ING's perspective, I'm just an avid traveler with a penchant for mai tais and curry laksas (which isn't untrue).

    • As long as you are not flagged (or declare yourself) as non-resident with ING, you will be fine.

You could be living overseas and using your OE card for everyday expenses, or you could be living in Australia and only use the OE card when overseas. ING is unlikely to realise the difference.

  • Get someone you know and trust in AU to add the ING card to their Android Pay / Apple Pay wallet and buy a few items and transfer the balance.

Those payments act as if you're using the card, so you'll hit the 3 transactions target.

Do it at a time when you have a larger gap in-between ATM withdrawals that way you can just say you're travelling back and forth for work.
