Randomly Banned from FB Marketplace

I must have underestimated my reliance on marketplace because i'm getting the jitters now not being able to scroll through people's second hand wares.

I just got randomly banned 36 hours ago and my marketplace account is now under review.

Has anyone had this happen to them lately? Is it a FB glitch/issue and this is happening to random accounts or was my account really compromised? I had an email to change my password about 2 days ago which I did promptly. Shortly after, I was told that i had breached rules on marketplace and was therefore restricted access. Doesn't help that FB is incredibly vague about this and doesn't explain what was done to have caused a breach. In the time I had access, I had 12 5-star seller reviews, had no current listings and marketplace messenger did not show any suspicious activity.

Has any one been through this and if so, what was the cause and how long did it take for access to be restored?

I don't use Facebook after it's decline from early Uni days & privacy scandals, but the cynic in me suggests this is a ploy to get more information out of you under the guise of having to "verify" yourself. Did you have to provide more info for them to review?

  • i don't use the 'social' interface aspect of facebook anymore, just the marketplace and interest groups to mostly buy stuff.

No, all i was asked to do was change my password and that's it.

    • I've never been asked to change my password sounds like phishing

    You're behind your misinformation quotas

  • just so we are not mistaken - everything else about FB works as it should, just marketplace is now off limits to me.

Someone sent 'is this available' one too many times did they?

nope - not at all. i've pretty mild buy/sell etiquette. And while i browse alot, i don't exactly engage people unless im 80% sure i want to buy/sell something.

Are you sure this email was from facebook? Did you click a link in this email and change your password from there?

    • This was my first thought too.

    • Yes was completely legitimate - 99.99% certain it's not a phishing scam. Linked back to the domain and everything.

Mailer was [email protected]. And the link led back to facebook.com

        • i still have access to my facebook account - just no bueno with marketplace.

      • Did it say why they wanted you to change it?

It does sound like your account could have been compromised.

Potentially someone now has access to your Facebook and has been misusing the account?

  • I've had this happen to me, when the warning comes up you can click "I don't agree with this" or something similar, and it will give you access back automatically, that has been my experience.

Got to love the "randomly banned" and then gives the details of why and they sound legit that FB detected something bad occurring with the account. As such NOT randomly banned.

  • Did you travel to overseas recently and browse any of Facebook there? Happened to me twice after using FB overseas. The marketplace menu just disappeared. I had to submit an issue to Facebook (after coming back to Aus) to have it restored.

  • guys no worries - FB made a mistake. ive now been unblocked. thanks for everyone's post,.
