Where Do You Guys Buy Ski Equipment?

Boots $800
Skis $600
Bindings $700

I'm not sure if it's meant to be that expensive?

Does anybody have a go to place with decent prices in Melbourne?

Would it just be better to buy better boots then just rent the skis with bindings?

Either this or new boots and second hand skis.

    • Go to a decent ski shop and get new boots, professionally fitted. Rent the rest.

Although depending on your feet, you may consider buying the boots up on the mountain, or somewhere nearby. Yes you will pay more, but if you need adjustments they should do it for free. Its can be difficult to get a good fitting boot standing in a shop.

haha, definitely meant to be that exxy. perisher just released their 2022 lift ticket prices today: $194/day during school holidays

I've spent $$$$'s on snowboarding gear in my youth, and unless you're planning to use the gear for a 5-6+ seasons in a row, better off to renting the "pro" range. Ski and Snowboard gear does age over time with all that good sweatness and wetness, especially the lining on the inside of your boots, so you need to dry and store them properly if you want to max out longevity.

      WT-actual-F??? lol

Have a few day trip in september, non school hols, and looks to be almost that much even for that period.

    Gumtree my man

  • i usually purchase it from the store. i don't know any other way.

if you are going to ski once a year, its best to just rent this time around and wait for after the ski season is done and buy it for 80% off. or look for some used once. research the skis ur looking at, they might be like 40 years old, and you probably don't won't those.

rent at the city near and at the bottom of the mountain if you have space in your car. it will be a lot cheaper, especially if you have a big group.

i loved it when i went to America. i had a $20 lift ticket, and it was mid week bogo deal ($40 lift ticket). renting was only $15-$20 if i could remember. then i looked at perisher it was $200 for a lift ticket, wtf.

i bought a snowboard and skis in america, and brought it back from holidays. soooooooooooo much cheaper, so i would do that if you ever get the opportunity. everything in australia will be expensive because they are catering to less people for a short season and have to make up all that money to last until next year.

  • Just buy it all from the pro shop.

  • Have a look at Auski, they seem to have a sale on right now. Still expensive in my eyes but at least it's a bit cheaper than what you've quoted. I bought my gear (skis w/bindings, poles, helmet) from them for about $1200 8 years ago.

Instead of buying skis and bindings separately, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy one that comes with it? Unless there's a particular set up you want then it's never cheap… Though skiing in general isn't cheap…

  • We bought last year from the annual second hand sale at the Ashburton Scout Hall. The gear was well used, but there was a good range of it. Think it is coming up in a few weeks time (18 June at the Ashburton Scout Hall - Snowsports pop up sale). Last year the queuing was crazy because of covid limiting numbers inside the building, but glad we went as it is worth getting fitted properly.

We were fitted properly for boots and, having done a bit of research for my wide foot, with a $150 spend on boots I was more comfortable skiing last year than I ever have been. We got old but ok skiis with bindings for a couple of hundred.

Since then we've bought skiis and boots for the kids from Facebook market place and have turned over some of our old clothing/gear that way.

  • Decathlon are having a big ski sale at the moment. Perhaps check them out.

  • Telemark Pyrenees is probably my favourite store
    Snowinn number 2

Occasionally the aussie stores have sales but yeah… normal prices are high
Ebay can be good at times too

Level nine USA have decent sales and reasonable shipping rates to Aus. Unless you have very "normal" feet I wouldn't risk buying boots as fit is critical

    • THIS!!! Get boots fitted, bootfitters I know others have used and had success with in Melbourne are Aussieskier and The BootLab in Malvern, Bumps and Footpro. My current boots were bought from Aussieskier and are the best fitting boots I've ever owned (I've had a few). For Skis, levelnine sports from Utah in the US. I've bought from them and they have special shipping to Australia, you can get some great deals. I have a set of K2 Skis I bought from L9. I also went into their retail shop in Utah when i was over skiing in Park City and bought a couple of things there. Level nine have a load of last seasons skis etc at great prices. If you know the length of the sole of your boot (ie buy the boots first) they will mount and setup the bindings for you on the skis. They also do the waxless finish on the bases if you want to pay a bit more.

Level 9 also had a chat function where you could chat online with somebody that would recommend skis etc to you.
