Pixel 6 Pro Warranty May Be Refurbished

Hello,

My phone had a defect and I am getting a replacement. On the email this is stated about the warrant replacement:

Your replacement item may be a refurbished Pixel 6 Pro Stormy Black 256 GB (Unlocked) that has been tested and approved to meet strict quality standards

Under ACL business's have to provide the consumer with a repair notice if the phone is being replaced with a refurbished phone. My questions is, is the statement above in the email where I order the replacement me accepting a potential refurbished phone? Or if they decide to send me a refurbished phone they will notify me beforehand?

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Cheers

That is your notice. Getting a refurbished phone as warranty replacement is normal practise, even Apple does it. It'll be indistinguishable from a brand-new one except different packaging.

    • Thanks for the quick reply.

A refurbished phone will still have the IP68 rating? My limited understanding is that if a phone is opened and repaired IP68 is no longer guaranteed. That would be my main concern.

Yes it will, when serviced properly by the manufacturer or authorised repairer. They use far more advanced tools than you would yourself or the bloke at the shopping mall stall.

Refurb instead of repair is great, because the repair is only obligated to last until the warranty expires. The refurb is also only obligated to last until the warranty expires, but is expected to last the duration of the warranty period, ie 2 years.

The stingy amongst us may 'put up with' a minor fault that would necessitate a refurb replacement but only action the refurb replacement at the end of the warranty period. I've done this a few times for the notoriously unreliable pixel series of phones.

    Yup, totally normal.

You can ask them to esacalate with management for specifically a new device - I've done this twice successfully.
Tell them you bought it new, and expect a new one as a replacement.
