2023 Japan Skiing for Family of 5 - Club Med Is 45% More Expensive than 2020

I know this is not for everyone, and not very OzBargain… but thought there may be a few JaPow snow bunnies shopping around.

Previously we did our own trips to Japan doing all the details- about 7-10k all in for 5 (really cheap)… We also found we lost so much time baby-sitting the kids and some ski school open and closing times and sorting out food etc… So we did Clubmed Hokkaido for 13.5k in Feb/March 2020 (rate locked in before covid) including economy flights from Perth. + this year my wife is working full time, so we do not have the usual planning time.

This year, that same deal (30% off before June) that quote came in at 19k!!! for two rooms - not even connected. That is like almost 50% more - flights are ~6k vs 3k before and the stay alone is now 13k.

So we are back at the drawing board for a trip late Jan (before Chinese New Year) or late Feb/Early March after Chinese new year…. (Kids will be 10,12,13. Dept ex Perth. Can get to Sydney or Melb easily if the journey starts there)

The less we have to worry about, the better and will pay a bit more to avoid food or mountain pass access etc…. (Happy to do flights separately).

Appreciate any advice.

just go to perisher or thredbo and save a fortune.

Yeah you could stay in a nice apartment on the snowfields itself with that sort of budget!

We enjoy Japan skiing in Jan too but they won't be relaxing their border restrictions any further until after the Jul election.

Try going to a different country in the Northern Hemisphere. Plenty of quality snowfields around the world.

That is expensive but I think we took it for granted how easy things were in the past. Fuel is expensive, Aussie $ isn’t doing great…

I’d love to do club med Hokkaido too, but I do expect to pay a premium.

I’m looking to hit up Aussie ski fields this year, on hill accommodation midweek - we’ll see how we go.

Once upon a time you were a busy man.

Fark, that felt like leisure compared to how busy they keep me today ;)

We're doing a few searches anyway. Will share if we see anything worth looking at…
    Inflation.

    • Thank you - please do share any good deals you find.

  • Better off in NZ.

For having snow yes, but I find the Japanese snow to be more consistent and powder better… Maybe living in Colorado spoilt me (of course it did!)… Driving up the windy roads to get up mountain in Wanaka isn't my favourite ;)
