Good 14" Gaming Laptop sub $2500

Hi,

It's my son's 18th b'day soon and I was going to buy him a new gaming laptop.

He'll be off to uni next year so I was going to get him a new laptop to replace the beaten clunker he's had for the last three years at school.

I've been looking at the Dell Alienware14s but open to other options for < $2500

    Does he want/need a gaming laptop for uni? It is most likely going to be big, heavy and have poor battery life, which is generally not what you want from a uni laptop.

    For that budget you could probably look at a cheaper gaming laptop/rig and a uni laptop.

    Asus Zephyrus G14 is good, maybe 2021 model w/ 3060 or 2022 model (probably very pricey).
    Good balance of performance, battery life and portability.

    Another option is the Razer Blade 14 (I have the 2021 model w/ 3070).
    Razer (3070 model) has better performance and build quality, Asus (3060 model) has better battery life, cheaper and slightly lighter. If you want the Razer (3060 model), you may as well get the G14. I've seen the G14 drop down to $2060 in the past https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/690075, and the Razer drop down to $2499 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/693183.

    Another option would be to just get a light laptop like a MacBook Air M1 ($1349), and use the rest to buy a cheap gaming desktop like from Techfast.
