Umbrella Recommendation - Good Quality

My car got stolen a few days ago. It was recovered but the $&*%! teenage thieves destroyed my beautiful umbrella that I kept in the back. I owned it for 15 years and it never missed a beat. It was the oldest thing I owned that I bought with my own money 😢

Can you recommend a similarly good quality umbrella that will last for years that I can replace it with? Preferably a rainbow one.

Thank you!

Got one from Bunnings for around $10 I guess.. Huge size. So good so far for around 6 months.

Been using these for years, and I can't recommend them enough (especially for the price)

Yep, I see ones that are so faded, they aren't dark green anymore.

"Bought these a few years back and they were fine. But this new batch we got leaks water. It is like having a shower under an umbrella. Maybe the rain recently was too much for them to handle."

      lol at this review

  • Sorry to hear about your car and umbrella (at least you got your car back). Was your umbrella of a particular brand and do you remember how much you paid back then? Will give us an idea of price range.

    • I remember it was a lot as I debated with myself for about 2 weeks before buying it (uni student working part time and only just managing to keep rent paid). But I had this weird desire for a rainbow umbrella and I admired it every time I walked past the pop up shop in the mall (which no longer exists unfortunately). I think it was about $50-$80.

Rainbow UPF25 Long Rain Umbrella Shelta 1638? About $25 - less trauma if lost versus a >$50 umbrella.

        • I'll check it out

I kinda wanna know how it was F*d up….. was it vandalized or violated?

I found it on the side of the road a few streets from my house the next day, the whole length of the (steel) shaft was flattened like a pancake and bent in two places making a J shape, the canopy completely separated from the shaft. I don't know if they chucked it out the window, and the wind blew it onto the road and it got run over by several people before someone put it on the side of the road or if they deliberately joyrode over it multiple times.

      • the canopy completely separated from the shaft.

        Sounds painful

Blunt. Not sure if there's a rainbow one, but they do have nice patterns and colours

Not cheap but will last forever and withstand the strongest winds

    • Just some food for thought, my Blunt Classic Houndstooth snapped after a few weeks of sporadic use. I took advantage of their lifetime guarantee, but I had to pay the shipping to send it to a residential address in Melbourne. Then I had to email them several times over the next 6 weeks to get an update about the repair, and I received it back about 8 weeks later with no communication.

That said, I bought a second blunt umbrella not long ago. They are good umbrellas.

      • One of my three Classic has a broken shaft and has to be shipped to Frankston. The failure point looks somewhat under-engineered. Are you happy with the repair? Do you think it may fail again?

I have a Blunt Classic (which I got on sale for ~$100).

It's an excellent Umbrella. In strong winds it has a bit of flex, and hasn't inverted on me once. Handle is comfortable, no annoying clasps or cheap feeling buttons to put it up or down.

Expensive, but customer service has been great (the tip wore out and they sent a new one for free - it just screws on at the top.

I'll probably buy another soon as mine gets "borrowed" regularly…

The Iconic regularly has them in stock and on sale for same day delivery.

How are we meant to believe this. I searched your post history and it makes no such mention. A typical ozbargainer would have been complaining about trying to obtain security footage and associated pain and suffering compensation.

How Do I Make A Claim On Car Thief's Insurance? (Don't Want Premium To Go Up)

    • +3

Haha. I had other things on my mind that day than Ozbargain like my cat that went missing on the same night (she came home 24 hours later but not before I spent all day putting flyers in letterboxes and calling her and posting on every Facebook group). I'm definitely going to be getting security cameras for the house though and will search OzB for the best deal.

    How did they destroy it?

      Made it not beautiful anymore.

  • Anyone used an Immortal Umbrella and recommend it?

Don't have one, but judging by review, can be added to your short list?

  • Holy crap - people on Ozbargain are recommending >$50 umbrellas!?!
What is with you and your bloody gold-plated umbrellas?
I remember getting a Woodworm 3 pack for about $20 only a couple years ago…

I got a $30 umbrella a few months ago as a spare and it broke after about 5 uses. I am happy to pay double or triple and increase its lifespan hundreds of times

      • +1

Exactly this. Got sick of replacing cheaper umbrellas. Should have just got a Blunt umbrella to start with.

Check out Umbrella Corporation. They make good stuff.

    • Still waiting for season 3

Have a look at SHELTA umbrella's, they would be the biggest importer of umbrella's in the country, and their guarantee is great as well. If it breaks they replace it.

The Bunnings Umbrella is top quality, readily available and cheap.

Those reverse opening umbrellas are handy if you're often getting in and out of your car while raining. Open the door a little, poke the umbrella through and pop it open.

    • Thanks, I got an umbrella as a spare from peter's of Kensington and it broke after 5 uses, they blamed me and wouldn't take any responsibility or offer anything, not planning to ever shop there again

      • Sorry to hear that. I've been buying from them for over 30yrs and not had a problem - yet… still wouldn't pay $500.00 for an umbrella though!

Oh I didn't see the price 😱What are they smoking?

  • OP, what brand did you end up going with? I am searching myself now…
