Genuine question how are they different to any other brand which are cheaper ? Is it just the brand name that commands the price?

    • For me this had decent reviews re: keeping water cold for a long time, is durable.

I've got the Chute Mag .06L and from my experience they're a lot better than the cheaper ones I've tried. Easier to clean, water keeps colder for longer, bottle doesn't leak, lid doesn't make horrible screeching noise when opening/closing and I like that the lid is magnetic so it doesn't hit my face when I drink from it (first world problems, I know). Having said that, I paid about $22 for mine and I think that is a reasonable price. I'd be reluctant to pay close to $50 for one though.

    • I bought an insulated 1L one from Kmart for 16 dollars and it's been pretty good.

  • do you need to bite down and suck ? the one i got for my kid is like that and i find it very hard to suck a lot of water fast

    • It's true you can't drink as fast versus the chute, but they have improved the design (hence Eddy Plus - faster flow rate than original). Personally I like the Eddy as you can drink without tipping your head back, and obviously it won't spill like the chute might, which is useful in the car for me.

  • does anyone know if the inside screw lid is plastic on inside?

    • The whole lid is plastic, the chute ones say dishwasher safe so it is a bit of a more heat resistant plastic. The Eddy ones are all plastic but there is a silicone tube going down from the bite valve plastic hinge thing into the lid to form the connection with the straw, that is how it can close the water flow by folding the valve down. That tube that goes down into the lid is what can get moldy also.

I had to check it wasn't April 1st.

Why are these so expensive? Surely the Chinese have made this chill-tech affordable by now

  • +2

Every couple of days you need to give the straw and especially the bite valve a thorough clean to prevent buildup of mold. It is also advised to replace these bite valves periodically as they are considered a 'consumable' item.

If you really want to buy a camelbak water bottle, I'd suggest the Chute Mag.

    • The mould issue doesn't come up much for me with my Camelbak insulated Eddy, though it definitely does for my Camelbax podium that I look on my bike. Weird, since there's a lot more mouth contact with the Eddy! That said, I still didn't need to clean it as often as you - more once every fortnight or two. Obv depends on how often you use it and individual biology etc

These were actually cheaper with the anaconda coupon deal recently

    • yes, the code was so good spend $30+ and get $30 off. Ended up getting a CamelBak bottle for $2.80 lol

Very hurtful. I just missed that deal!

  • Kambukka Elton Insulated Water Bottle - 750 ML - 3 in 1 lid - Snapclean Technology https://amzn.asia/d/gpHj7eR

Got one of these recently for about 49… Great product.

I had the camelbak version of this for a number of years before this, and this is much better build quality.

The camelbak eventually stopped keeping things cool for long.. Probably as I'd dropped out a few too many times
