Apple MacBook Pro 14" 10-Core CPU/16-Core GPU 16GB/1TB Space Grey $2987 + Delivery ($0 to Metro Areas/ C&C) @ Officeworks

960

This is the 16GB/1TB model Apple sell for $3749 so a $762 saving.
Bought one myself. Did pick up to local store so no postage costs. Sure still near $3K but I can get gst back with abn and instant tax deduction for this financial year.
Have been using a M1 12.9 256GB iPad Pro that I didn't get on with just sold for $1400, so going to a laptop for my portability, also have a 24" iMac in my home office.
Been tossing up for a week v the 14" pro or even a MB Air then the 13" MB pro. By the time you bump the ram to 16gb and the extra storage they are getting up there for 2 year old models.
Anyway this is a bargain even $12 cheaper than the 512gb model.
Also if you have flybuys will get near $15 in flybuy dollars.

  • Do you think apple store price match this ?

    • +1

      Not more than 10%.

  • Anyone knows if anywhere else price matches to this deal?

    • Doubt it as it's out of stock now, HN wouldn't even match a $200 off the base model amazon has on.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Apple-MacBook-14-inch-8%E2%80%91core-14%E2%80%91core/dp/B09JQP9H5W/?encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=0RVET&content-id=amzn1.sym.9cd047d1-2774-4cc9-95dd-708981705640&pf_rd_p=9cd047d1-2774-4cc9-95dd-708981705640&pf_rd_r=F9A5RQ9C823CX1DQ9XGA&pd_rd_wg=5xhqj&pd_rd_r=efc7c41f-6176-40b4-9c8c-80b5ec7baf95&ref=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mr_hp_d

      • This was a superb deal, OP.

I am bummed that I missed out on it.

Did you setup any PH alerts?

        • +2

No, I had just been looking around for a week, amazon, HN etc, best I had seen was between $2-300 off the base model, just got lucky.

    • Damn, I’ve been holding out for a deal like this for ages. One day I’m not glued to my phone and this happens.

      • Argh! Same thing happened. I was late by an hour or so, and all stock simply vanished.

This was a 20% discount on RRP.

Back to the AOC store for now!

  • Its back in stock! Got one!

    • wow, nice one, gone again for me

    • What state was this? Or was this online order?

      • Online order, deliver to SA.

  • -1

Mine is already on way to my store so I guess all is good, was a bit concerned could be a refund given for mistaken price listing.
Should of bought a few lol.

  • So glad I pulled the trigger on this and didn't wait, same config MacBook Air 2 is $60 more lol
    Price is nuts.

    • Yeah, regret not pulling the trigger and waiting for the MBA now!

That said, we haven't seen MBA deals yet!

      • +1

At best will be 10% from JB etc, won't be straight away though.
Or EDU store which everyday anyway.

        • +1

10% via JB + discounted Giftcards or Edu + Cashabck + discounted Giftcards could take you a long way, but I should have followed OzB 101 - buy now, think later! (Could have always returned it, if the Air was a better option).

Enjoy your Pro, you made the right move!

          • +1

@poppingtags: Thanks. If you buy off the EDU store and have enough apple gift cards at the 10 % discount it would be $7 cheaper $2980, only thing is the extra 10% is via woolies shopping or flyby dollars to spend at Coles etc.

          • @poppingtags:

            Cashabck

You will not see cashbacks offers on new Apple products for at least a year.

            • @DoctorCalculon: Ah that's a shame then. Hopefully we'll see repeats of this sale price in the near future.

              • @poppingtags: Blame Apple. They set the terms. They reckon their shiny new toys market themselves.

Also, cashback is usually capped at $100 or so. So, discounted GCs would be the way to go.

                • @DoctorCalculon: Unfortunately, they're not wrong. Estimating 5-6 million Airs to be sold in the next 6 months.

I just realised I'm after the Pro anyway, so the Edu + discounted GC + $100 CB would still be an option for me.

    • Be interesting to find out the performance but I reckoned it will be in between M1 to M1 Pro? But then again, this Macbook Pro 14 has more I/Os, SD Card slot and ProMotion!

      • Maybe straight line speed could be better (ie…single core)?

But I want support for two screens anyway…neither Air nor 13" does that. This would have to do desktop duty for me, though I guess I could switch to one really wide screen.

        • This alone forces me to shell out for a Pro. Disappointing tactic by Apple.

          • @poppingtags: I had actually just been planning on getting a Mac Studio, as portability isn't a must for me. This price was outstanding though. I really shouldn't have ummed and ahhed while I had it in the cart!

            • +1

@Banj0: Studio seems like a great machine too, hopefully you can land one on sale - or maybe we'll see this price again for the MBP!

  • +1

Thanks Op. Just managed to get one in Canberra. Collecting tomorrow.

    • Any left?

    • wow excellent

  • in the EDU apple store
M2 Air with 24GB RAM, 1TB ssd Is about the same price of this.

How much is the Pro ergenomics , and Pro chip (considering the improvements of the m2 chip) worth over the new air?

    Anyone hazard a guess?
This is a great deal and im hoping there may be more come end of financial year but wondering if its worth it over the m2 air.

    • Pro has much better and bit bigger screen, to me that is worth it as that's what you look at ,air 1 and 2 pretty much the same just a bit brighter.
Guessing m2 will be between m1air and m1 pro
      Pro has fan
Will be waiting months for that configuration air 2 order

      • thanks for your response.

Kind of curious to see if the new m2 Pro brings any significant changes that are a must have

The new m2 air screen looks pretty good tho

        • +1

its same as air 1 only diff is 500 nits instead of 400 and adds liquid to retina knowing apple is just fancy name change.
          14" has all this:
          Liquid Retina XDR display
14.2-inch (diagonal) Liquid Retina XDR display1; 3024-by-1964 native
resolution at 254 pixels per inch
          XDR (Extreme Dynamic Range)
          1,000,000:1 contrast ratio
XDR brightness: 1,000 nits sustained full-screen, 1,600 nits peak2 (HDR content only)
          SDR brightness: 500 nits

          and Pro motion.

  • I've been watching this and just noted a price update at Officeworks, it's gone to $3,372 (but still out of stock for me). Makes me wonder if there was a pricing error originally.

    • maybe, picked mine up yesterday, should of bought 3 lol
the base model is $300 off.
      https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/macbook-pr…

    • I definitely think so since it was under the same listing as the lower spec model. Seems the Officeworks gods decided to smile on us this time
(hopefully, still waiting for mine to arrive at the store 🥶)

      • it's great just got mine setup, nicer to use and look at than my 24" iMac, twice as fast too. pro motion is so good.

        • mine just arrived in store this evening, will be picking up tomorrow. Thanks for the post again, finally pulled the pin and upgraded from my 8 yr old MBP. Heres to another 8 yrs of happy computing.

          • @Anonymous18: No worries, it makes my 24" iMac screen seem average haha, pro motion is so good.

            • @[Deactivated]: you probably havent had enough time to use it, but hows real life usage battery life

              • @Anonymous18: no not really, seems good from half a days use yesterday

  • Still bummed I missed this mega bargain :(

    • -1

This happens to me too whenever I am away from my desk. :(

      • Well…maybe keep an eye on it still. The listings are still there on OW website, and the price today just dropped back down to what it was in this sale (after jumping up to $3,372). I'm not sure when the new M2 14 and 16 MacBook Pros will be expected (October again), but surely there will still be stock of these M1's around for some months yet.

        • -1

Price is back down again. But no stock AU wide.

          • +3

@DoctorCalculon: Yeah…sorry, I mean, hopefully there will be a restock before end of month.

            • @Banj0: A few rumours pointing towards M2 Pro/Max based Macbook Pros being released towards the end of the year. Obviously won't be available at this price point - but with JB-Hifi deals + giftcards or Edu Store + cashabck + giftcards, it should only be a couple hundred dollars off the OW deal.

M2 has made some impressive improvements, the Pro and Max variants should hopefully do the same.

My laptop is slowing down - but I can hold on till the end of the year. Don't feel as bad for missing out on this excellent deal, although if you need a laptop right now, that's a different story.

              • @poppingtags: Currently the edu price for an equivalent of this deal or close is about 3300-3400. Not bad but seeing the price drop again, I figured it was coming back or they matched another supplier. Just can't seem to find anyone doing the same. They do however have the 16" with 512gb at 3400. I just wish there was that 1tb as the 512gb fills up VERY quickly.

              • @poppingtags: Yeah…I don't have super urgency myself. My main use case is photo editing, and work. I would like to do more video editing though.

I wanted to hang off to next fin year if possible. My Mac Mini (Server) is 10yo though, and not getting updates anymore (aside from security). Some apps are getting pulled now, and there was a major issue with a security patch last year that clobbered a couple of my favourite applications for a few months until a fix was released. Shame, as it still runs reasonably well (since I loaded it with SSD's a few years back). I'm sure it will be a great little Linux server when I replace it.

I'm aiming for something like these MacBook pros or a Studio. Seems to me that the Studio will be last to get the M2. Either way, I'm happy if I can get another decade out of the next machine.

                This was a great price.

                • @Banj0: This will be my first Mac, I've been really impressed by the longevity that Mac owners seem to enjoy, even on Intel based systems. My use case will be very similar to yours, including wanting to get into video editing. Given that I'll likely keep the machine for 5-10 years, I don't mind waiting for a few more months for the M2 Pro and paying a little bit extra for it compared with this deal.

Great price for those who did get it though, I'm sure it will serve them very well for many years to come.

                  • +1

@poppingtags: Ahhh…good luck with it. I work supporting systems on various flavours of Windows, Linux, and Unix, and that experience prompted me onto the Apple path. Linux/Unix has proven far more robust in my particular industry. Frankly, I want things to run as smoothly as possible at home, and my experience with Apple gear has been that I need to do far less hands-on in terms of keeping everything running well. It was a bit of a learning curve getting used to the new OS, but I do feel it was worth it.

If I really wanted to tinker more though, then I might pick Linux and Android for my personal ecosystem (though OSX is Unix after all, and there's plenty of scope to dig into it). Also, as my son would say, gaming on Apple sucks (though is doable, he's just annoyed because Roblox runs so poorly on our Intel iMac). Can't fault it for music production (I have been a Logic Pro user), image editing (I use Adobe products for that, and some others), and of course for general work use (remote clients and web based stuff) it's just fine. Testing I've seen of video editing suites on M1 would indicate that it's an excellent platform for that (and I'm sure will only get better as software vendors continue to optimise their products for the new architecture).

                      @Banj0:

Also, as my son would say, gaming on Apple sucks

Have you son try gaming on a M1 machine, and then let us know. ;-)

My niece was blown away playing Asphalt on a M1 iPad Pro.

  • damm it, missed again

    • +1

It didn't come back in stock?

  • +1

Loving my laptop from this deal :) Thanks OP!!

  • Ah I really want to get this. But not sure if 16gb would be enough for software dev (using jet brains rider and vs code). Any thoughts?

    • +1

I guess software dev might be a bit more demanding than when I was studying. With image editing and other things open, I seem to rarely be using more than 8gb on my old Mac (which I've spec'd with 16gb). I was thinking that 16gb will probably be fine for anything I can throw at it for some time yet.

  • +3

Long time lurker, first time commenter. I actually created an account just now to let you all know that I went to my local JB hi-fi today and the salesperson price matched the $2987 from office works with no fuss. I went in last week and the other sales person refused to price match if there was no stock available through office works. I also paid with gift cards to knock an extra 5% off. Picking it up tomorrow from a metro Sydney store. So take a chance and you may just get blessed 🙂

    • You are lucky.

Just went to JB, and the staff said the Specifications on the Officeworks website showed the CPU is Octa-Core, not a 10-core CPU, so that is a different model. That is BS, they are looking for any excuses to avoid the price match.

BTW, do you mind messaging me the invoice or order receipt, I want to try again tomorrow.

      Thx

  • the salesperson price matched the $2987

    Good work. Very lucky!

I tried for a price match at two city stories. Even asked the salesperson's manager. Refused both times as they could see no stock online or anywhere in Melbourne.

Also, what is the best place to procure JB Hi-Fi eGCs online?

  • I ended up selling mine after a week or so, was way overkill for my uses. My only neg was battery was surprisingly average using hotspot when I was away with it on the long weekend, ok on wifi.
Might look at a base model air 2 when they are 10% off or buy on Apple edu.

  • It's back.

At least, it shows up for me.

Now after all this talk of M2's etc, I'm procrastinating again.

    • Yeah silver showing for me.

      • silver is a different spec $2797
        8 core 512gb

    • As far as performance is concerned, the following order makes sense based off early reviews:

      M1 Max > M1 Pro > M2 > M1

M2 Pro / Max may possibly be announced around October. For the prices to come down to something like 20% off RRP like this, you may be waiting another year or so.

    • Ugh me too!!

EDIT: Looks out of stock to me?

      • +2

EDIT: Looks out of stock to me?

        For us Melbournians, yes.
If you change to a NSW postcode, you may see one or two nearby stores with stock (depending on postcode).

        • Still in stock for me (ACT). Not in store, but available shipped or click and collect.

I've resolved to go with a Studio myself, so will pass this up.

  • +4

Just managed to snag one. Man, so stoked that it is back in stock!!

    • Silver?

  • Yeah, Silver.

    • nice, the space grey was a bit of a fingerprint magnet

  • This deal is insane. I'm refreshing the page every hour hoping to see it in stock for me (QLD).

    • Any luck for you?

I have given up. Will try towards the end of the month.

      • No luck for me too :(

  • +2

They Cancelled my order and saying they can cancel my order for any reason. WTF!!

    • What?

When you place order and which state?

      • Ordered two days ago and got cancelled yesterday. Im in Brisbane.

    • That's not good! After I got the Officeworks order confirmation email I cancelled an order with JB HiFi - I'm going to be very annoyed if I have to go back to JB HiFi :(

      • +1

If you got confirmation email. You will be good.

  • It's back and ordered one.

    • Not in Victoria sadly :( but I did see click and collect available in ACT and NSW

      • Just got an email that said they are reviewing my order. Hope it won't be cut.

        • +1

Thats what I got last time. They cancelled my order eventually.

      • not seeing that myself

        • +1

          Mine was approved.

          • @skyboy: Must of been 1

    • Thanks for the post! I managed to order one too - still processing but hopefully it goes through.
They still have stock of all the 14-inch and all but one of the 16-inch MacBook Pros, so it was amazing timing for them to restock everything just before EOFY…

  • +1

Anyone wanting a 16" 16/512 Amazon has 7% off space grey and you could get another 5% off with OW price match. $450 off.

    • -1

You will fill up 512GB very easily.

  • i think there is some stock if anyone is keen.

    • Only in NSW and ACT.

      • QLD (Brisbane) had stock when I checked today too.

        • +1

          They still do.

          • QLD: 5
          • NSW: 3
          • ACT: 3

          (as of this comment)

There was only 1 in Fountain Gate, VIC this morning.

  • Just got another one, had to swap pick store around a few times from Sydney 2000 to my local store and that worked.

    • Buyer’s / seller’s remorse? Or are you flipping these?

      • I was undecided if to keep the first one or get a MB Air 2, after seeing the slower speeds on the MPr M2 base model v the M1, looks like the Air 2 maybe the same, so you need to go to 512GB and if you add to 16GB its only $200 less, and will be a long wait.
Also better screen, speakers, more ports, 1TB v 512gb.
I only really made $300 selling the first one after using it for a week or so.
I can claim gst back so this one will only have cost me $2,400.

  • Just ordered the Space Grey with click and collect in QLD. Hoping it goes through okay
