Dell 34" Curved Monitor – S3423DWC opinions

There doesn't seem to be many reviews of the S3423DWC, mainly it's gaming cousin S3422DWG. I think the S3423DWC was only recently released. It's currently on special from $1199 to $599 which seems like an awesome deal.

Does anyone know anything about this model? It even has a built in KVM switch so two computers can be connected and you can run both screens at the same time on the monitor. The price seems too good to be true for a quality monitor. I'll be only using it for WFH, interwebbing, movies etc. not gaming.

    I bought this one

My thoughts after having it for one week:

    Negatives:
    - USB C cable included is pretty short and not very useful if you aren't connecting it to something pretty much in front of it or barely off centre
    - USB port for charging below the screen is on the left and not very conveniently located
    - no DP port… The description did mention it has one but it's the same USB C port…I should have checked it more closely as this was pretty much a deal-breaker for daisy chaining
    - screen quality is definitely lacking compared to another 4K IPS LG I was using previously
    - buttons are a bit finnicky

Things I'll need more time/to try improve:
    - whether the USB kmv is useful
    - the ultra wide makes screen sharing on Teams horrible for the others zoomed out so I'll need to figure out how to fix this
    - more advanced features

Overall I think it's decent, my main selling point was the USB C and the monitor detects the connections quite quickly.
It's not super heavy, just the base and the base itself doesn't take up a lot of space. Would I buy it again if I could go back? Probably not, I'd rather have one with a dedicated DP for daisy chaining.

Main uses so far have been WFH, media consumption and general browsing. Haven't had time to set up for gaming. I actually find it kind of wasteful as media consumption and most webpages just remove the sides

  • I bought one too. Agree regarding the short cable and lack of dedicated display port. Also the built in speakers are really quiet but I didn't intend to use them anyway.

Apart from that I am pretty happy with it. I originally got an AW3821dw but the uneven colour was too much for me, this one doesn't have the same issue. I was also looking at the u3223qe but its way more expensive. I would have preferred an IPS panel but so far the VA type seems fine.

  • Hi OP, I don't want to hijack your thread, but I'm also considering this monitor for WFH because I find myself switching between two PC's a lot, the KVM feature sounds great.

I'm keen to hear how well the Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture features work, if anyone has experience?

    Thanks!

I brought one of these also. Ordered it online on the 29.05.2022 from Dell with the student discount and paid $569.00. It arrived (Sydney) on the 31.05.2022.

It worked for one (1) hour, then white vertical lines appeared across the screen. A few minutes later the entire device was unusable.

Have been calling Dell support every singe day since the fault appeared. They cannot replace (no warranty stock) they cannot refund until they find out stock levels.

I also purchased the Pro Support for $39.00 which was wasted and cannot be refunded.

Very disappointing experience. I am stuck out of pocket with a brick and have to wait over 3 weeks for a refund, in the meantime no monitor.

During the hour it worked, I found it not as vivid as the Samsung range, USB-C was good, worked fine. It was light enough to place on a monitor arm with no trouble, I was sort of looking forward to using it but my hopes were smashed.

    Will never buy Dell again.

  • S3422DWG vs S3423DWC

    Any other comments?

I am planning to connect a Nintendo Switch to this and the 5W speakers mean I dont need headphones but 5W - WTF?!??!

  • these monitors come with warranty and support options on top of included 3y. such as "5yr ProSupport Premium Panel with Advanced Exchange Service", is it worth to buy thee additional support?

I'm happy with my S3423DWC which I've had for a few weeks. No dead pixels that I can notice after testing. The KVM function works will. A couple of presses on the buttons on the bottom of the monitor and I can switch. Yes the USB C cable is short but it reaches to my laptop. The inbuilt speakers are OK but I've plugged in a 2.1 Logitech set of speakers that are better.

    • Thanks for the feedback. Have you used the picture-in-picture and picture-in-picture functions at all?

  • I bought one, USB-C with DisplayPort and Power Delivery don't work with my 2017 MBP. Same Macbook works fine with a U2520D with USB-C, DP and PD…. really annoying because the price is good. the screen is kind of reasonable, and the standards for the cable/dp/pd etc should just work too but don't! Shakes fist at sky!
