New WA Road Cameras to Target Speeding, Mobile Phone Use and Seatbelts

From News.com.au - An Australian First.

Of course the solution is, don't speed, wear a seatbelt, and don't use a mobile phone (no matter what state of Australia you are driving in)

You mean they finally caught on with the other states?

Finally converting that mining $$ into new revenue sources /s.

good, so sick of seeing a*hole drivers on the road

    • Now you get to see them on tv too

  • However before any fines for infringements found via the cameras could be issued, the WA government would need to amend the law.

That's actually surprising that it's not already on the books.

They are gonna use this excuse of enforcing traffic regulations and achieve a state of mass surveillance,

    • Safe under the watchful eyes of your lovely LibLab cronies.

    An Australian First

It was when NSW introduced them about 3 years back

    • It's WA… they were also the last state to come out of iso…

    • I think the article is trying to highlight that … "point-to-point cameras will be mobile mounted" - as I understand it, that is what will be an "Australian first".

Cashless, you said that NSW did this 3 years ago … but from my google seaching - this was regards to fixed points (not mobile/movable sites).

Fixed & moveable in NSW since 2019
Source: there’s often been one on the main road not far from where I live.

        • Cashless : are they towed to the site??? … on the back of a mobile trailer??? easily moved within 1 hour's notice??? … As I said - think that is what the article regarding WA being an "Australian first" is more about.

Cashless : you didn't link to an article describing it - so just going off what you posted.

Do you have in NSW what I have described above???
or is it more of the "Ned Kelly style of speed traps" we have had in WA for last 2+ years …. whereby they place on side of road (sometimes even chained to a lightpost) - then come back 4-6 weeks later to move to another spot?

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I'm not afraid to say it. No matter the backlash. I will stand firmly in this position, and I will die on this hill. It is one of my core beliefs. I've said it since day one and I am as certain as ever. I carry this conviction near-and-dear. You will never convince me otherwise.

I am not fond of distracted and unsafe drivers.

I'm still surprised that smoking is still allowed in Motor Vehicles, as I have noticed quite a few drivers distracted whilst in the process of looking for their Cigarettes/lighter etc, than try and light it, then later dispose of it in an 'acceptable/safe' manner. Then there are those inconsiderate Twats that flick their butts out the window.

  • May be issue more parking fines and hike tolls too?

Park and lawns don't clean themselves.

    • Fine by me if the WA tolls go up.

Surprised they haven’t got one that checks your vaccination status yet 😄
