    Bad deal…plus add delivery costs…

You can get it new for $185 (MSY) and get $50 cashback from Epson for a new unit…

Total cost $135 for a new unit with 12 months warranty…

    https://www.clubepson.com.au/competitions/data/index.asp#14 for cashback details…

NB some companies are excluded from the cashback.. namely officeworks etc… (so don't price match it there)
    …….

These printers 7xx / 8xx have definitately got their issues
I've got both a TX800FW/TX730FW and now an Artisan 837…

Not for the faint hearted…. But excellent output and low running costs if you combine with a CISS..
Very flimsy unit.. plastic tray always feeels like its going to break off..

ADF died in under 12 months..(apparantely a very very common issue) (Had to modify my unit for the CISS) therefore.. no warranty…

A few driver issues. (not too bad) .. wireless printing and scanning, works most of the time.. (nothing a restart of printer and computer won't solve…

Apparantly iprint 2.- now supports printing from mobile device IOS etc…
The unit will need to be modified to accept the CISS.. (cutting bits of plastic off)…and a ink wastage bin will need to be added…

I happy to buy them for myself.. 'cause I've worked through all the issues.. Would I recommend it to a friend or family.. really difficult to say…

    • The unit will need to be modified to accept the CISS.. (cutting bits of plastic off)

We have the 730, and it didn't require any modifications to run a CISS. Making modifications would make it look neater, and after warranty expires, we will do this, but for now, our printer still remains whole.

As for the quality of build, I think Epson has gone downhill in this department. Everything feels cheap. They are obviously building to a price, and hoping to make money on the cartridges, which, although still 82N/81N, they have changed the chips on them. We had to get new chips for our Rihac unit when we replaced our RX695 (which was a steaming pile!! - I was glad when it died.)

    • Thanks for bringing to my attention of the current cashback deal. In that case buying new for $180 is a better deal. As for the quality, I've used the previous model Artisan 725 fitted with CISS from MIR for a year without any problem. The slide-out paper catch is the most flimsy and annoying thing, but it serves the purpose nonetheless.

  • On the topic of ciss. Has anyone tried the MIR-Australia product?

I've used the Rhiac CISS system for my HP printer in the past and it was fantastic. The ink quality was pretty close to the original HP ink.

  • Epson test the purge unit for non genuine ink especially in the case of clogged heads, so modify away you have no warranty.

    • I'd be interested as to how they check it. I assumed the more expensive replacements would be the same chemically?

  • CISS?
