Sturdy bed frames

Hi all,

I’m looking for a bed frame that will last. Unfortunately my current flexible slatted bed base has ruined my mattress so I’ll need to upgrade.

I have been looking at the quokka and also the new sleeping duck frames, but I don’t like the idea of dust accumulating under the bed. I would consider a storage bed for the extra storage and reduced cleaning.

Has anyone had any experience with the Snooze bed frames? I want something that will last and isn’t a squeaky, flimsy mess. I assume there’s more to go wrong with a storage bed? Especially with the gas lift.

I have had a guest bed frame from snooze and it wasn’t well made at all. I had to on keep re-tightening screws and it wobbled. I just don’t know if the larger beds are better.

Feel free to suggest another option - I’m after queen size.

Thanks in advance!

I have never had a bed base with storage that is also sturdy, its usually one or the other. I also had a slatted bed base that ruined my expensive foam mattress. They do not really go together I found out.

If you get a standard spring mattress then slats is fine, but with a foam/memory foam mattress i have found a solid base better suited for me.

I got koala midrange and am quite happy with that although prices seems to have really increased on their site the last 6 months.

I went with the Sleeping Duck "Indestruct" bed frame as I also wanted something that would be super sturdy and would last, and this seemed endgame to me. It has lived up to the task so far (6 months and counting). It's easy to vacuum underneath. I do think having built-in storage underneath would be very handy though.

    • How is this going for you? Still recommend it? Considering getting one of these too since mine is falling apart after just 4 years.

I have no regrets so far. But if I were in the market today I'd still look around at some other manufacturers. For sure though, this Sleeping Duck frame is a beast.

after 2 kids still going strong

not all ikea beds are the same, this felt more solid and had under bed storage

    check them out

    • Thanks - took a look but many reviews saying it’s creaky! Also the slats look flexible so that will void a bed in a box warranty unfortunately.

Have a look at quokka beds. I only ever bought my beds and latex mattresses from them. So glad I went with them when we shopped for our beds. They are as australian as beds can be and the after sales service had been top notch. Plus, they do offer lifetime warranty (your lifetime or the company lifetime, whichever is shorter, I guess) on bed frames.

A slat base is not suitable for spring coils, and the performance of your mattress will certainly affect the gaps in slats.

I had the same issue, so when I got my new TV I place the TV cardboard on slats and seal the gap and then placed the mattress on top of it. The feeling is great and also protects the mattress.

In case you take complain to mattress company on the performance they will ask what type of base it's ie slats or with the flat base?

we are Oz bargainers so we should avoid unnecessary spending also I am sure no friends/relatives are keen to lift the mattress and see what you have placed under the mattress.

    • Doesn't the mattress need to breathe?

You can try this one from sleeping giant. Easy to clean underneath and it's not slatted but a solid board to properly support the mattress. - https://www.sleepinggiant.com.au/oslo-charcoal-bed

No storage underneath, not cheap and may not meet your design choice but they are super durable and heavy duty.

    • Thanks! Does the mattress slip around much? How do you keep it in place?

I thought it would slip around too But we’ve had it for two weeks and it hasn’t moved around at all.

Keep all the boxes and you can always try and return if your not happy.

    • eva timber bed is made of plywood material with 5yrs warranty, for $200 more you can have solid jarrah queen size bed frame with lifetime warranty from quokka
