Have You Bought The PS5 at an Inflated Price?

I know it's near-impossible to get the PS5 at RRP, but I've seen them sold at inflated prices (over $1k).

I already have the OG PS5 (phew) but a friend of mine needs to spoil his little lad for his birthday in a months or so time, he doesn't care about the price (Medical Directors got that big-bux coin)

Have you purchased a PS5 at an inflated price - what was your experience? Did it still takes months to get to you? Do you recommend avoiding this avenue?

i was more referring to your general question of

Have you bought the PS5 at an inflated price?

But yeah thats fair, if they're rolling in the dosh, good on them.
For a pleb like myself I would literally rather wait months for stock than supporting scumbag scalpers.

I’ve been seeing the PS5 Disc go down in price on the 2nd hand market. See a few listed for $850-$900

    • He is hoping for new stock. I'll keep an eye out, though. Thx

If you get them to sign up to PS5 stock Alerts Australia through twitter you might be able to get one at rrp. (I get notifications all the time)
Got mine from Amazon and delivery was within the week.

A friend of mine bought one at an inflated price, but had some issues with it after a week. (Just a hardware fault-but was under warranty)
Another buddy bought one for 1k and no issues through marketplace.

    • Thx for the tip. @AustraliaPS5? look right? I've set up a notification for this Twitter acc. Cheers

      • Yep that is the one. I also had signed up to this one. https://mobile.twitter.com/ps5stockcomau?lang=en

They are fairly in sync with each-other. If they don't want to be annoyed with other notifications from other twitter accounts, get them to make a burner account just for those two alerts. That way when you get a notification, you know its on!

Thanks mate. I disabled all notifications bar that acc lol let's see if it works

@ThithLord: All good, hopefully it drops and they buy one at rrp. I think buying it at inflation atm is harsh considering they have now become more available.
            (More than what they were)

    • This. I've had the PS5 in my Amazon cart about 4 times due to this twitter account. Noped out each time as I realised what a waste of money it would be for me.

Nah, but I've sold a few to make a few dollars lol. But resale price is abysmal now.

  • I bought an Atari VCS instead. 1/2 price. :)

    • Can it run Crysis?

I was able to get one a couple weeks ago from EB .. Just keep trying

  • Heard you can ask at JB/EB to go on a waiting list

Otherwise just hope you don't get scammed

    • I'll bear this in mind mate

There may be ebay listing at ~$850, you can use discounted gc ~9% https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/704663 and may be able to use code to put it down to (almost) normal price.

I’ve had my PS5 since launch. A week ago my friend said he was after a PS5 Digital and asked me to keep an eye out for one.
I signed up to twitter, followed the PS5 Australian stock account. I managed to purchase one from Big W within three days.
Just make sure you have push notifications on.

    what was your experience?

    Absolutely fantastic!

I don't own or desire one.

    • I think my one was out of FOMO.

      Took the bait.

Plenty on facebook market place for less then 1k, 850-900. But as always COD only.

$100 premium isn't so bad when the alternative is many hours of disappointment trying to get one legit.

      • yeah, still annoying as, but yeah 100 I guess if you are over waiting.

I got the PS5 on launch day for 40% off by trading in PS4 Pro to EBGames. Was perfect.

back in my day I got a piece of brick and a stick for my birthday

This is whats wrong with society.

  • My Mate at JB bumped me to the top of list after waiting 10 months for random drops and missing out. I have seen on marketplace they're $850 now and have been listed for a few weeks so people seem to be picking them up easier now and it's great watching the scalpers sweat

    • What a score!

      • Yeah and sold my PS4 at the height of COVID for $300 and then used my pro until I got the ps5 and use it most weeks such a fantastic upgrade from the pro

  • No, I bought one through EB Games's April preorders.
I had a chance to buy it twice before then but waited after I got my new 75inch 4k tv.
I personally would not recommend paying above retail for a PS5. I honestly don't think its worth it. While I use mine a fair bit and certainly don't regret my purchase, the PS5 for me has just been a bigger new and improved version of my PS4 Pro.
The minimised loading times are great though.

    • The PS4 has been going strong for over a decade. There are still new games being released for it. Realistically, the PS5 is going to hold all of its practical value until at least 2033.

You pay $1200 for an iPhone that will become obsolete in 11 months, yet people are stingy about overpaying for something that they will actually use and get value out of for over 10 years.

The ps5 has been out for almost a year and the supply issues still aren't getting better. The premium you pay from scalpers is basically an early access fee. You're getting it well before most people are.

If you really want one and have full intentions of using it regularly, there's really no reason not to buy one…as long as you can find it below $950 (very easy). I wouldn't pay more than that purely on principle.

  • If anyone has price protection, they could just get it from the Amazon marketplace sellers, since its sold under Amazon. If you are lucky enough to have that policy and your friend is happy to pay, then buy it for them and claim when theres legit stock :P easy few hundred.
