I just got one of these exact models to replace my loud oscillating orab b toothbrushes that was loud and hurt my gums.
    This one is louder!
I love the wireless charging but the wife hates the cup

    • I reckon my oral b electric has caused gum recession. The brush heads are just too firm.

      • +2

        Perhaps you're using it wrong?

They're not meant to be pressed hard against the teeth or gums.

Been using mine for many years (crossaction heads only - tried the others, i don't see the reason for their existence….although maybe you should be using the sensitive heads)

My Dentist says only use the sensitive tips, not any of the others

        • +1

That's likely based on what they've observed in your mouth. Not universal advice.

          • @andresampras: Actually no, it’s nearly universally recommended to use soft brushes over firm ones. Firm bristles should only ever be used on dentures and occasionally to remove stains on your teeth

            • +1

@viper8548: just to confirm are you a dentist?

            • @viper8548: But surely that’s ‘err on the side of caution, to account for public stupidity’ type advice.

I suppose it also comes down to how the toothbrush is used. I’m used to medium bristles, and I know not to press hard…and my teeth are in good shape. If I switched to soft bristles now, I’d have to adjust the way I brush…which could create problems.

              I’m not a dentist.

      • Yeah I had mild gum recession and my dentist recommended the oral B. I've been using sensitive tips and sensitive mode or whatever and it's just too much.

    • This one is louder!

But….does it clean your teeth well? How about compared to the oralb

      • +1

I moved from Oral B to Philips a year or so ago and my dentist did say that my teeth have been cleaner than before. It is louder but it moves/vibrates more than Oral B.

        • do you employ same brushing action on both?

        • I do. You are supposed to let the brush do all the cleaning and shouldn't be pressing against your teeth/gum. If you push too hard, both tooth brushes should alert with lights/vibration.

      • +1

My dentist recommended the oral b and i feel like it was much more thorough in cleaning due to the aggression of the oscillation.
The oral b has a pressure sensor which I am not triggering and I've following along with their ap so…

      • I have both but use the Sonicare as my daily driver. I bought the Oral-B when I was waiting for my replacement Sonicare toothbrush for a couple of weeks.

I feel like the Oral-B does a more thorough job but it is not as satisfying to brush with compared to the Sonicare. Having said that my dentist says my brushing is really good so the Sonicare evidently does its job. Whether the Oral-B is better is another question.

    • had one of these for years was great but recently stopped working when any pressure applied, replaced it with an oral-b ai on special other day lol, probably would have got this again if saw it last week and it was at a local costco. the cup is very convenient but became just another thing to wash despite not getting used else it gets very grimy (mostly leave toothbrush in shower and just threw in cup when need a charge).

  • if only I can get someone to buy it and ship it to me 😢

      …. and brush for me.

      • time to visit the dentist

Likewise, I've been waiting for a price drop on these for ages! Just visited my dentist and he asked me if I had changed brushing - had to confess to going manual since mine died.

So, if anyone is going anyway, please message me and I'd pay for shipping to Vic too, obviously…

Any luck with other costcos? I'm in Brisbane and could do a costco run on the weekend.

    Looks like a great price.

.99 doesn't suggest it's any sort of clearance or store specific special: https://costco97.com/blog-post/hacking-costco-decoding-their…

But it's out of stock online: https://www.costco.com.au/PHILIPS/Philips-SoniCare-DiamondCl…

anyone seen anywhere in victoria? needing a replacement for my last one (still got the replacement heads to get through :| )

Great deal. Mine only just broke down after 6 or 7 years. Couldn't recommend it enough for the right clean. Will be replacing with another Sonicare when the right deal shows up. Unfortunately not a Costco member.

  • Hi guys, just a heads up, the manufacture date might be in 2018( it's next to the copyright symbol, and also it's personal thought)

I went to the store, picked up one box, its package looks a bit brownish and dusty, so I put it back.

      So?

for anyone saying they are replacing their old sonicare- these things have like two moving parts and can be repaired very easily in just a few minutes
Ive had a few fail, but have all been replaced under warranty and then repaired the broken ones.
Sometimes a small screw comes loose and you need to reset it and tighten it, sometimes the battery dies (just replace it).
Sometimes the button gets clogged and needs to be cleaned.
Basically unless the PCB goes bad, you can pretty much repair every part of these for a few bucks :) Youtube/ifixit has loads of guides.

    • I bought the Sonicare 9700 on Amazon last year and that failed within 6 months due to the loose screw. Contacted Philips and they sent me a new one and didn't ask for me to ship the defective one back. I looked up the Youtube vids to open the defective one and tighten the screw which worked like a charm.

It is a little difficult to open up and I recommend buying a soft-jaw plier (~$20) to reduce risk of it being damaged when trying to open it. I tried opening an older DiamondClean with normal pliers and it left teeth marks even with the cardboard wrapped around the handle. The soft-jaw pliers with the cardboard on the 9700 left no marks.

  • Is it available on Lidcombe Costco?

    • +1 for the same question

  • Anyone know if you can join Costco online to shop online, or do I first need to collect the membership card in store before being able to online shop?

Regarding the toothbrush, I've used one for a few years now and love it. Much more powerful than Oral B. Dentist also remarked that my teeth look cleaner. Have since gotten other family members on to this model as well, and they enjoy using it too.

    Great Price!
