Kaweco Student Fountain Pen - Fine - 70's Soul $56 (Was $129) + $8.80 Delivery @ Milligram Outlet

121

Pretty good price for Kaweco's student series Fountain Pen. Be careful of the nib size you choose as it makes a big difference to the experience. There is Extra Fine, Fine and Medium. Comes with 1 blue cartridge and one empty cartridge (no converter for bottled ink sadly, but they aren't that expensive). This is the 70`s Soul, there are also others but they aren't on sale.

Miligram is a tad bit overpriced @$129 but they do usually sell for about $90 for what I can see online.

I got it but haven't used it, build feels great in hand but can't comment on how it writes as I haven't inked it up yet.

Also if it's your first fountain pen, beware the paper you use also matter a lot for the experience, which Milligram outlet have some great Clairefontaine notebooks for sale too.

FWIW, I bought some Kaweco Sports from the Peters of Kensington sales about a year ago (approx $19 a pen), and feel they are much better quality than the LAMY Safari and Al-star pens. Better nib, less leaks

  • is this something like 14K 12K? Gold nib or normal?

    • Well not entirely sure what they are but it is most likely not gold, as at this price it wouldn't be possible (even at it's normal retail). At best, they would be gold plated, if that…

      • of course I meant gold plate, LOL.. but looks like it is not as the below comment..

Stainless steel nib, not too sure if it is gold plated or using something else.

    • It’s very hard to find gold nib at this price point. It’s stainless steel nib with gold plating.

    great pen, unfortunately horrible colour

  • inflation?
many moons ago when I was a student, student pens cost a lot less than textbooks

    • I believe naming isn't implying this is for students, but more like premium design/version of what German students use in schools.

But yeah, pretty sure name doesn't imply this is for students.

      From Kaweco's website:

"Kaweco's success story began in 1883 with a small shop near Heidelberg University. At that time, the shop sold popular writing utensils mainly to young students. An inseparable connection between Kaweco and the university students developed over the years. As a dedication to this connection, the Kaweco Student series was created, available in silver elements in black and transparent finishes and colour combinations with golden details, nostalgic colours and soft beige."

    you gotta be trolling

    • lol no
when I was a student, all we could afford were biros

i didnt mean you i meant op posting this as a 'deal' perhaps im just cheap but i dont think i would ever pay 56 dollars for a pen i reckon i 'd struggle to drop more then a a few bucks for a pack of like 10

perhaps id droped 3-4 bucks on a 4-pen but this is ridiculous

Each to their own I guess… just like cars where some people buy simple cars and some buy luxury cars. You could argue that both types of cars have an underlying purpose of taking you from point A to B but it’s the experience that differentiates between the two.

I mean you have to be aware that value is a subjective proposition, right? Is this first time you are hearing about a premium product you wouldn't pay for, but other people do?

This is just objectively a good price on an otherwise even more expensive product, hence a deal.

And yes some people do buy and enjoy using things that are expensive to others. And vice versa, same people might find your purchases extravagent, right?

Are you someone that writes often, and/or in ways that are neatly presented to others though? In my last job, when I was having meetings with CEO/CFO's. I'm not going to pull out a $1 Bic in a meeting where I'm asking them to sign a $300k deal.

            Why?

do you think CEO and CFO's care about the pen they are signing with? all the multi-millionars i know honestly couldnt give a single f—- how much a 'pen costs' they might look at the cost of your suit and car if judging a person though…..

Like fair play to anyone that wants to spend big on a 'pen' that is up to them but this forum is full of ppl moaning about why people buy expensive cars when you can drive a Corolla….i feel like this makes less sense.

            but each to there own

            • @Trying2SaveABuck: How do you know people who upvoted this deal are the ones complaining about people buying expensive cars? Have you gone and verified this?

            • @Trying2SaveABuck: You really have no ability to step out of your own shoes, do you?

all the multi-millionars i know honestly

              lol, stop pretending.

If you are going to neg a deal, you need to find the product cheaper and available somewhere else…

  • I like the jinhao pens, I think it was the 921, writes smoother than the Lamy and very fine.

Last I bought some they were like $6 each

    • Yeah I got some Jinhaos too, and I don’t think they are smooth. But I think that’s the problem with Jinhao’s, inconsistency. Otherwise they are fine pens. But I can tell you in person this feels way higher quality than X450 and X750. Closest Jinhao I got to the feel is 100, which again, does not write smooth.

if there a left handed version?

    • Pretty sure it doesn’t matter if you are right handed or left handed haha
