Strange Issue with Pixel 6 and Telstra

I just bought a Pixel 6 from someone on Facebook and the device is in perfect condition.

However when I put my Telstra sim in it it cannot connect to network. If I put any other sim card (tried Amaysim and Circle) it connects.

Contacted Telstra and they have no idea why this happens and say something is wrong with the phone.

Has anyone came across anything similar ? I thought Pixel phones are not locked to carriers? I have also already tried factory resetting.

  • Go to a Telstra shop and get a new SIM

    • I did that, still doesn't work, the sim works on my old P5 but when I put in P6 it doesnt work. Telstra says then can't do anything from their side

      • I hope you got a receipt then because a replacement from Google is probably the only thing that will fix your issues.

  • Quick google says that they can be carrier locked. They likely had it on contract with optus or similar

    • It says it is currently blocked by Vodafone !

      • That's it unfortunately, sometimes when phones get imeo blocked it doesn't take effect for all carriers at the same time so it may continue to work for some carriers.

This is why we don't buy expensive things off marketplace…

      • and the devices is in perfect condition

Yep neglegance on my part. Should have checked the IMEI :(

  • Check the imei like suggested above.

  • Enjoy your soon to be brickā€¦

  • Sell to an OS buyer on eBay or give it as a gift to family/friends OS as the phone will work with non-Australian carriers.

Probably stolen goods if it's blocked, hopefully the savings was worth the risk

    • Would be definitely stolen, or they just didn't pay their bill and on sold it for a profit.
