Should I Buy a PS5 Now or Wait for The Slim?

Right now the PS5 is still hard to get, however in the near future Sony will eventually release the slim version of it.
Which it'll be smaller and better. So I'm conflicted on either buy it or just wait, but it kind of makes sense to wait
for the slim version.
Right now most PS5 games are still released on PS4. So in the meantime, PS4 could probably replace the
the current shortage of PS5.

Any suggestions?

When slim comes out, hold for pro.

When the pro comes out wait for the pro slim

    • Yeah, your right. I think is every 3 years they will be releasing a slim. And now there really isn't that much PS5 games on the market, even if some are good ones the price will eventually drop in the future.

Original PS4 was released on November 15, 2013 and the slim came out at
      Sep 15, 2016

Original Ps3 was released on November 11, 2006 and the slim is September 1, 2009.

So it is likely that PS5 slim will be releasing next year

There was also not a chip shortage back in 2009 lmao

  • Buy a ps5 now, the slim version will probably take 2-3 years. If you can wait that long then you dont really need it.

  • Why no option for PS6? :D

They can't even make enough ps5's. Don't bother waiting for a slim. You'll be waiting an eternity. You can't compare this console cycle with previous cycles.

If you want a ps5 buy a ps5. If you want a ps4 buy a ps4. I got a ps5 by walking into EB and asking and they had some out the back. No mark up and no wait. Go into EB and ask them to put you on a waiting list. I expect you’ll have one in the next shipment. Probably 2-4 weeks. Personally ps4 is EOL. Ps5 is now entering mid cycle. Ps5 pro/slim will be years away though. They haven’t really optimised many games yet for PS5 so plenty of life in the current console.

They can’t really optimise to a slim version before the technology moves forward which it hasn’t. The GPU is still current generation. No shrinking really possible yet.

Oh yeah, I haven't thought about that. This is likely due to the shortage of PS5 and is probably the reason why technology advancement is slow.
So we are currently stuck between PS4 and PS5 because PS5 is not adequately distributed in the market. And Sony is forced to continue their games on the previous generation instead of focusing on the current generation. If they continue onto the current generation. Many of the consumers will be left behind. As of right now, there is still a large population of PS4 players.

So i'm guessing an extra year or 2 for the slim to release.
Unless they can solve the shortage of PS5. By then I won't be surprised to see Nintendo technology catching up to Sony and Microsoft or release a new console.

In the end, I think I'll stick with the PS4 because they are still continuing to release games on the PS4. And with all due respect, there really isn't any benefits to buy a PS5 right now. The games that are on PS5 can be bought on PS4, unless the real reason to buy a PS5 is just for exclusive games or with slightly better graphics.

      Thanks for the info

      • with slightly better graphics

There are so many more benefits than this. The loading times, for one, is night and day. traveling between zones on Don't Starve Together is a few seconds on PS5 but it is like half a minute on PS4. And If you have a high refreshrate screen then you'll experience far more than just "slightly better graphics". If you game a lot then the benefits are definitely there.

    • Tech absolutely has and continues to move forward. Here's an overview of an onslaught of new AMD advancements around the corner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eI8OJnkGnvU

  • There wont be slim. New model will be a double decker (bigfat XXL).

  • Buy whatever you can get if you want one….
Wait around for a slim version but then you'll probably have to wait even longer to find stock lol

  • Just buy the PS5 now. I waited 1.5 years with 2 opportunities to buy it during that period.

The fact that the PS5 is already backwards compatible with the PS4's massive library means not only do you have access to playing PS5 games but an optimised experience with many PS4 games (depending).

Last time I checked, the chip shortage will continue this year so its not like they'll be heaps of stock anytime soon.

  • the rumours about these new models have been floating around since the ps5 launch so that goes to say how silly the rumours are. Anyway, I highly doubt they will have these slim or pro models anytime soon, considering the hardware of this gen is still very adequate and they is no faults with the system at all.

Mine runs cool, quiet, its pretty flawless.

Screw waiting for a new model. Current ones are already too hard to come by.

That being said, a Slim would be so great. The PS5 is a brickhouse. It's heavy, oddly shaped, and the weight distribution feels like you're carrying a dead body. 0/10 for the design, methinks. But a great console in terms of performance and features.

while I'm up for slimmer models, gotta disagree with 0/10 design, the console looks great, runs cool, and most important of all whisper quiet, can't say the same for any of the past ps3 and ps4 models, so they basically address all the concerns. Never heard of any one complaining about a home console's size.

First time for me too. Design usually doesn't phase me but with the PS5, it's a noticeable issue of you ever have to move it around or transport it. Even sitting it on a flat surface feels awkward.

I guess this is more of an aesthetic criticism rather than design as a whole. The shape is supposed to assist with cooling and noise reduction which it does well (previous consoles were a disaster for this). But it really does look like what I previously called "a turd from the future".
