Make sure you tell them "I earn $75,000 per year, I am 30, and I am a citizen of Australia".

      They can't check, anyway.

      • -7

i think it's adorable you think they're going to just hand over 200 bucks to you over the phone. Read it again.

"3. Enjoy the presentation with your partner and collect your FREE* $200 Coles Group & Myer Gift Card"

        • +4

Who said anything about handing it over on the phone?

        • +1

They just book you in over the phone.

You must attend their presentation to get the $200 voucher.

      • +1

So what do you get out of it for everyone who uses your referrer code?
Is it an extra $50 per person like has be insinuated?
you seem to be defending this pretty passionately.

        • Nothing.

          And thanks!

  • +3

"no questions asked"? I doubt that for $200 they will not ask you for anything.

    • I have been through it personally. They will give you the $200 gift card at the end of the presentation.

      • Twice I have been through it personally. They will give you the $200 gift card at the end of the presentation.

        good times

  • +5

High pressure sales pitches and boy do they love to stick it hard from start to finish (and beyond)…

Will not attend another one of these ever.

P.S. Don't annoy your friends with the refer business at the end either, they will hate you and disown you for it (I think you get another $50 voucher for each person/couple you manage to snare into listening to one however…><)

    • really cool, just give them some fake mobile numbers!

      • They have to attend an "Information Session" as well before you get the bonus so you end up feeling obligated to go to get your friend the extra couple bucks (That's how I ended up at one >.>)

        • oh! that's no good then, don't like incentives based on other peoples actions, cause you have no control! unless of cause you have cheapstake friends who has nothing to do, then win-win ;P

    • i did this couple times, feel no pressure at all and seems they are the one that exhausted with all their trick :)

when they try to do new trick, use your magic word "is it your ABC sales technique?" let see what is their reaction

  • Will they check ID for age?

    • Yes. Apologies. You need a drivers licence or proof of age card or some other form of photo-id (student card), when you check in at the entrance of the office.

I changed it to "Must be 25 or over".

  • wyndham

these guys are high pressure pump n dump scam artists

    • What is "pump and dump"?

      • +2

        haha sounds dirty, doesn't it?

      • +8

It was difficult, but I tracked down some info on it for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pump_and_dump

        • +4

Finding the term on wikipredia is "difficult"?

        • +19

conveying sarcasm on ozbargain seems to be harder.

        • Remember wear & tear on keyboards costs… :-( & google hurts.

  • how bad can it really be? Any tips or info on what they do?>

    • kinda like timeshare but more than one resort!

    • +1

I've a funny feeling that this so-called 90 minute presentation will stretch to at least 2 hours the moment you've indicated your reluctance to buy anything and during that time, being subjected to high pressure tactics to purchase. Be warned.

      • No, it is not 2 hours.

It is 90 minutes. Which is 1.5 hours.

      • +1

If you really have at least 2 hours to kill (remember you will have to get transport to the venue) and you remain cynical (keep rolling your eyes through out it or even better just use your smartdevice and surf the net…) then the $200 might be worth it.

I went to one of these things about 5+ years ago (re: Internet marketing) and the freebie was only a "3 course meal"* and a filofax-type organiser. A $200 Coles Myer giftcard is way better!

*3-course meal consisted of a dinner roll, sandwich and a cake slice all on the one dinner plate…

    • +1

At the end of the presentation, when they try to sell their packages to you, just say "No, sorry, I am not interested."

They will guide you to the exit where they will give you a $200 gift-card and you sign that you have received it.

      Then, you leave.

It is worth 90 minutes of your time, in my humble opinion!

  • -4

Very few things in life are 'Free'.

    These reeks of scam.

    • It is not a Scam.

They offer you to buy their time-share packages.

They've been around for 10 years or so.

    • +1

hey this is ozbargain, i'm sure most people on here would trade their time for money. if you dont have to travel too far to this place, $100 an hour is not bad, more than my job pays.

i've been to the bedding one also, where you get free gift and dinner for about the same amount of time. They do it all over melbourne so only 10min from my place last time.

      • +1

I got their letter but didn't go. What was the free gift from that mob?

      • +1

        What's this bedding one?

        • Wentex beds.

          Comes by postal mail.

  • darn it they are all the way at knox in melbourne too far!!!

  • -3

I would neg, but can't as i'm new

Haven't been but been to something similar, and never dare go to something similar again. They try to force you into buying into their time-share accommodation plans.

    • +5

you just have to learn how to say "NO" they dont hold a gun to your head!

    • +3

you would neg someone because you get uncomfortable about someone pitching to you?

  • Have to come to their 90 mins presentation night!?
Freebie with a catch + waste your time!

    • +1

that's usually the case, when you sign up to something free online. you still have to give your info. address is real at least and spend time to sign up.

where as this more time = more money/value!

  • Yes.

I had a lot of time to waste! :-)

  • +4

I once went for one of these and got a digital camera.. I aint going ever again!
They try really hard to sell their product to you. THey will keep on going about how good their time share scheme is why wouldnt anyone sign up!

As long as you leave your wallet at home and take some music to listen while they are "presenting" it would be worth $200 I guess

  • +1

Only available for Brisbane, QLD; Sydney CBD, NSW; or Knox City, VIC.

  • +1

are they doing this presentation in Sydney?anyone knows where abouts the location is?

    • +1

I heard it was around Surry Hills

      edit: maybe this location?
Corner of Goulburn St & Wentworth Ave

      • Level 7,
        66 Wentworth Avenue,
        SURRY HILLS

  • +1

90 min of my time != "free"

  • +1

    1.0 hours - travel time
    1.5 hours - "fun" time
    x2 - partner + me
    Payment $200 - $10 (min) gas money…

This means less than $190 for 5 hours? Not worth it…

    • +2

You're not considering that you and your partner will get 2 of the coupons, which is $390 (you tell them you're single). 390/5 is $78/hr for almost no work. For some it will be worth it, depending on how much you earn at your day job and how much your pleasure time is worth to you. Then you have the pleasure of buying right afterwards.

  • +1

I have done one of these before. And if you can sit there and make sure you dont get caught into their sales pitch, then you can come out a winner. Obviously, that said, they are paying you that for 2 hours of your time and if you value your time, then dont bother.

  • +2

What time and what day are their presentations. I live 1 minute from Knox. Anyone want to come with me?

    • 6pm and 8pm

      • Unless they have it on a Friday night I can't make those times

        • +3

          Ring them and ask.

          I am not their keeper.

    • +1

Yeah I'm right near knox too, could be up for it. Strength in not signing up lol

      • +1

I tried ringing yesterday but couldn't get through. I'll ring today hopefully and see if they have it on a night that I don't work.

  • +1

how do they know if someone is married anyway?

    • +1

also wondering about the perm residency checks.

this would be sweet for backpackers otherwise. :)

    • They don't.

But if you say during the 1300 phone call, "I am married/defacto/with partner", they will reject you at the door if you do not have your partner with you.

I have personally experienced this! Assholes!

Always safer just to say "I am not married/attached/no girlfriend".

(They do not reject you, however, if you do the reverse -versa - ie: You lie and tell them you are a Single Male & then just bring your wife, at the last minute! You both will still be able to attend.)

    • They cannot check "permanent residency".

However, if you do not say "I am a permanent resident" or "I am a citizen" when you ask you on the 1300 phone number, they will reject you there and then, and will not book you and you will not get $200.

So, make sure you always say "I am a citizen", even if you are a 'backpacker'!

  • +1

do u get the 'Gift Card' that night or u wait for it in the mail?

    • That night.

  • +1

This reminds me of my first interview at Roy Morgan.

I said yes to doing a group interview for $250 when I was 16 or 17 I forget. As soon as I get there, they are confused that I am not 18. They were scratching their head on what to do. Eventually they gave me the money for just coming! That was quite a bit of money for me back then.

    • Nice.

Why didn't they interview you as well?

I would've just "fudged" your age, and made you go through the market research interview regardless of age!

      And then paid you.

    • +1

really i didn't know roy morgan did paid interviews.
      how do u join?

  • This appears to be a job/work, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guideline…. As there is discussion, moved forums.

  • +7

I own timeshare weeks (bought resale so much cheaper than this) and have discussed with other residents on the hard sell and how to overcome it. The best I heard was one lady who told me "My husband and I go every year. We just get to the sell part and then we stage a big fight. I say 'But what about the new car you promised me,' and in the end they can't wait to get rid of us." So think along these lines. Do not sign up for anything.

  • +1

How many people at presentation. How many prospects and how many salespeople.

    • +1

I did one of these in Fiji for Wyndham… There were about 4 couples int he presentation and then plenty of sales people after. They had the local person selling and then when you say 'no' they bring in another salesman, who is better at pushing pressure on, but after saying no enough times then they give what you came for. They also had free coke. It ended up going longer than they said it would.

      • Rofl…

U got Fijians living on one dollar a day to sign up to a 15,000 dollar package???

    • There were 4 couples and 2 singles including me.

About 4 salesman, indian and se Asian appearance, hovering around.

  • +1

You have to wonder if they would sell more timeshare packages if they halved the price and saved that $$ on all the Myers gift cards, presentation venues and high pressure commission only sales people.

  • +1

Yes, exactly. This is why we bought our timeshare resale. If you google 'timeshare resale' there are a number of good sites where one can buy floating weeks in top resorts for only a few thousand and of course, like any property one buys, offers are accepted. My husband told me we wouldn't get the timeshare at the price I had offered and we did. This just goes to show that the price these seminars present are way over inflated and too many people are getting a cut along the way. It also gives timeshare a bad name. We will not go near any of these presentations. You get 'nothing for nothing' here and 90 minutes goes far longer.

  • They will never stop contacting you after you attend, went to one of these for a $50 voucher and deeply regretted it.

  • +1

Market research sounds like a better thing to do, might not get paid as much but at least they listen to you talk and not harass you afterwards

  • -4

Sorry but I see comments about this company being a scam but then people are telling me how to scam them by misrepresenting myself. I'll take the high road and only go if I'm invited and fit the criteria. Too many Scammy people on this blog you should be ashamed

    • It is not a scam.

And why should we be ashamed?

      • -3

Bouce this blog is telling people to lie in order to receive the offer that wasn't even sent to them of course you should all be ashamed.

  • +2

Thanks for posting this Bouce, really helpful - between me and the missus we could cover our monthly grocery spend at Coles!

Just wondering, did you give them your actual mobile number/address? I'm assuming they require some contact details when you call up and register.

I don't mind junk mail, but if someone is going to be calling me every day then that would get tiring really quickly. Have you had any such problems?

    • +2

I gave them my PO box and said I don't have access to email and a fake 8 digit mobile number. The don't need it anything as the confirm and give you ther address upon booking.

      • -1

I was told this was by email invitation only. You mentioned you had to sign for the gift card. Did you read exactly what you were signing for?

        • Dude, I knew exactly what I was signing up for.

It's is not "by invitation only", despite what they tell you…anyone can attend!

Just call the 1300 number and quote the code above.

They only want the code, that is all they want. Do not engage in commentary! They don't care where you got it from.

They don't require an email address from you (just tell them "I don't have email.") and make up a fake mobile number. But make sure you give them the name that's written on your licence/proof of age card, as they will need this at the Seminar.

They will confirm your attendance and give you the address on the same call.

        • -1

Dude, you are totally wrong and deceitful. No way should you be ashamed go ahead and lie, cheat or steal…enjoy that life.

        • Well they asked heaps of questions and this is just to let people know they do ask for your email, address and telephone number.

Why lie, what do you have to hide?

        • What am I afraid of?

          SPAM!

          Lots of it.

          Email & Phone.

But I love Postal Spam. That's why I give everyone my postal address. Send away!

Email spam is free. Phone is close to free. Postal mail costs $$$ in comparison.

Feel free to send me anything you want, bricks included, by post:

          Mr. AP
          PO Box# 1048
          Bondi Junction
          NSW 1355

Because it costs people money to send something by the postal system, they don't. Email is free. Phone is close to free. Post costs $$$ in comparison.

Wyndham - like similar timeshare sales operations operate under strict ASIC regulations.

They must provide you with a detailed product disclosure statement:

    http://images.wyndhamvrap.com/PDS/PDS_1_August_2009.pdf

… and there is a seven-day cooling off period if you did sign anything at a presentation.

This information is easily searchable via Google.

That said, if all you want is the freebie then that's fine.

Whenever I go - I meet the basic requirements then before the sales rep starts their presentation I simply say that I will not be answering any questions or providing any written information at all.

I say that I'm there to get the gift and for no other reason. I say from the outset that I not be purchasing anything and that will be there strictly for the 90 minutes and get my gift and leave.

I say I will sit politely and silently and listen to what they want to present - but I will not be answering any questions under any circumstances.

Works every time - I get the gift - walk away happy.

And yes they do call you back about once a year. I know what I'm getting in for - happily go along. And I'm also aware of the limits, under ASIC regulations, of what they can and cannot do.

They are a perfectly legitimate sales channel - yes they do all they can - within the law - to motivate you to buy. But the above strategy works well.

I certainly wouldn't call it a scam. They must by law be clear and upfront about what's involved and what you get and have always meet their end of the freebie bargain.

Some people like it - others don't - there's no compulsion to participate and go along. The choice rests with the participant.

(Also I am not associated with Wyndham in any way other than having attended their presentations in the past.)

    RE: COOLING OFF PERIOD:

  • Rang them and they said it was email only invitation. Can't bring others on the day (Need to be registered and have got the email too).

    • Just hang up and ring back and tell them 'i got referred by email'. They don't keep records.

I never got asked where I found out about this offer, so must've got a smart arse operator.

  • Went last year and ended up spending 3 hours listening to the salespeople. Each time I said NO they would bring in more senior salesperson to talk to me. At one time there were 3 of them trying to intimidate me into signing up.

  • I was there yesterday. (sydney)
OMG it was 1 on 1 presentation, i didn't realize that. Although at the beginning i stated i don't have time for holiday in the next 2 years (which is true I will only go back China where they don't own any restort, any I don't need any since my home is there)and i was just attracted by the gifts, the lady was a bit upset but still acted professionally explaining everything. In order to suffer less I tried hard to change the topic and shared a quite pleasant talk with her about life, family, finance, religion and something I can't remember for around 45 minutes I guess. Anyway I still received full information about their plan or "1 day only offer" or whatever, and answered "no" for around 8-10 times. Basically it was not too bad, half of the time its like a chat with a friendly stranger, the other half you know you friends will also sometimes keep talk talk talk about whatever you have no interest as well and watched a short vedio.
Eventually of coz I received my $200 giftcards and a surprise of $25 wine voucher, but the website is unavailable at the moment. The only thing let me down yesterday was the guy who agreed to sell me a (almost new) second hand bike told me he sent the bike for "repair and maintenance", which will take 2 days. I cancelled the deal.

    • +2

the guy that sell you the second hand bike working at wyndham as well?

      • +1

no totally had nth to do with wyndham

  • went tonight myself at sydney. the time you spent with them at least minimum 1.5hrs. I was there for 2hours after high pressure selling. some people got there same time as me still stuck with selling pressure. however, worth it at the end with $200 giftcard to spend.

almost got me whether I am single when they asking me times about my family and about your love ones. however I got there

    • they r bunch of crooks i think, i was there 2. happy 2 take their gift cards though. :)

  • I went to the one at knox last night, ended up spending 2 hours as well. The salespeople were so desperate they even offered to sell the program at a discount, LOL.
    Thanks OP
