Tablet Suitable for Leaving Spreadsheet Open All Day to Update a Cloud Synced Google Sheets File? Galaxy A8 Good Enough?

Need some tablets mostly to constantly update a Google Sheets file. Wondering if Galaxy Tab A8 is good enough. Reviews suggest that it's kind of a waste of money, but surely the spreadsheet experience can't be that bad? I know iPad is probably the way to go but can save a few hundred bucks on a cheap Android, and if it gets dropped and broken will save again on the replacement.

  • The Lenovo Tab P11 Pro runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 CPU, which is quite a bit faster than the crappy Unisoc Tiger T618 found on the A8.

(edit: initially suggested P11 non Pro, updated to the Pro variant as it has newer gen CPU)

    • The Pro seems to cost about as much as an iPad, unless you order from Aliexpress.

      • I'd try asking on the Google Sheets subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/googlesheets/ to see if anyone working with Google Sheets know the importance of the CPU when running large data files.

I'm not really sure if the calculations on your spreadsheet are run locally or are run on Google's servers. My initial research suggested that CPU was a consideration if you run Google Sheets offline mode but this applied to Chrome / Desktop only. You can get away with having a low-end Android device if your spreadsheet isn't complex.

        • It seems to be a shared load between server and local in my experience using Google Sheets on Desktop.
I run a BIG spreadsheet which has lots of recursive calculations. Takes 30 minutes to run locally in Excel, about 15 minutes on Google sheets on the same hardware.
CPU definitely spikes up even when running Google Sheets, but doesn't bog down the entire system like it does when run in Excel.

  • Not if it has Oled screen, image will get burned in

  • +1

Second hand laptop would be cheaper I think.

  • I got an A7 for $150, I hope I didn't pay too much
I basically just want to load my media (video & music to watch or listen maybe on the odd occassion) & watch the back-door security camera
