Organising Laptop Replacement

Hi guys, I am wondering has anyone had similar experience,

I bought a laptop from Microsoft eBay store and its keyboard is faulty, I would like to organise a replacement but not sure I should contact Microsoft or the laptop manufacturer?

its basically a 50/50 flip of the coin, which one do you think you should contact first?

I actually contacted MSFT via 132058 but after I selected personal and neither an xbox nor a surface issue they just redirected me to help.microsoft.com and terminated the call, and the website doesnt help me at all on this matter

Depending on how long ago you purchased it.

If within a certain period (you will have to ask eBay chat about this), they will simply get you to return the product for a full refund. A bit tricky here if you paid via giftcards here.

You can also message Microsoft eBay directly and they would typically only give you a replacement if they currently have the laptop in stock. However, they might take it back from you for a 'repair' and just make it very tedious for you.

You can also contact the laptop manufacturer however this experience will either be very smooth and they will arrange for a replacement or refund or it will be extremely long and tedious where they take your laptop and have a technician assess it and then give you an outcome. All this can be very time consuming and you are honestly better off going for a refund and buying a new laptop.

    • Thanks for the write up mate.

I have sent MSFT eBay direct message and see how they go about it.

The order was just placed end of last month and I just received the laptop about 2 weeks ago.

Yeah no worries. Just remember to really drive home the fact that you absolutely do not want to be without a laptop as you need it. You don’t want to be caught up in the process of repairs, etc with the company staff taking their sweet time to process everything. More often than not its cheaper for them to give you a refund rather than deal with the labour costs of technicians, etc.

If they want to send your device to the manufacturer for an assessment, this is a very big red flag and just opt for a refund at that stage.

Try the Microsoft store in the Sydney CBD. In the past I've been able to get an appointment and have my Surface Pro 4 replaced with a new unit (known issues with graphics card)

    • Yes, personally replaced a few Surface pro/laptops with ease, the overall experience is good, however, my laptop isnt a surface and is manufactured by another company.
