Checked Luggage and Amenities on Virgin Australia

Does Virgin Australia allow multiple checked luggage if you decide to purchase additional luggage? E.g. if I were to purchase 20kg and have 2 10kg checked luggage.

What Amenities does Virgin Australia provide on a lite fare, Do they provide entertainment or food with the cheapest fare?

  • You need to download an app to use the entertainment. But it’s not on all flights.

    • What do you mean it's not on all flights?

The ability to connect to the app is not enabled for all virgin flights. I recently flew from Melbourne to Gold Coast, and it was not available there but it was available on the return

        • Because the app is redundant for those flights and you use the web browser to get your entertainment fix instead … Did you ask the flight attendants whether entertainment was available on your device via a browser?

@kerfuffle: No, it wasn’t available during the flight at all. They confirmed it wasn’t available after the safety demonstration

No food unless you're flying Business. You get complimentary tea, coffee or water and can buy food.

As pointed out by supasaiyan, you need to have your own device for entertainment, however some aircraft don't require an app and can be viewed from the browser.

Nope you purchase a bag up to a certain weight. So if you want two bags checked, you need to buy two checked bags.

Basically nothing at the back of the plane anymore….. Free water/tea/coffee and that is it when flying at the back.

BYO device/headphones for entertainment assuming the plane has the wifi system.

Correct. So pack your two 10kg items inside a cardboard box or plastic duffle bag. An extra bag costs $45 if you book it online in advance but the Lite fare is usually only $10-20 cheaper than a Choice fare which includes 1x23kg.

    • I flew Virgin Australia for a work trip and had to book extra luggage - 30kg total and I split the weight over two bags and I didn't have any problems, and my colleagues that regularly fly with them also do the same and haven't had any issues spreading the allowance over multiple bags.

How long ago and are you silver or above? If so you get a extra bag for free.

See the link above, its very clear that it is 1 bag these days, the olden days it use to be as many bags as you want up to the weight limit. When you check in now days you have to say how many bags you want to check in, so if you only paid for 1 bag they'll charge you after that.

        • About a month ago, and not any status.

  • Couldn't get any Samsung phones or tablets to play movies during a recent flight, Oppo was fine.
Might be frustrating if you have kids.
