Wise Physical Debit Card - How Long to Arrive?

Has anyone applied for a Wise debit card recently? I read that it can take 4 weeks to arrive. I’m going overseas next month so keen to understand if others have received their cards within 4 weeks?

Think mine took about 2 weeks, but that was pre-pandemic

  • Never mind, I went through the application process and with standard mail, it should be by Friday (sooner if you pay for express). That’s pretty good!

Took about a week for mine, applied for it last year.

Less than a week to Sydney, dispatched from Melbourne. Virtual card is available instantly.

Mine arrived fairly quickly, but never use it because I have the Wise card added to Apple Pay as well.

    • That’s great to hear! Does that mean I just wasted $10 or do you only get access to the virtual card after buying a physical one?

      • I don't remember paying for my physical card. It was years ago that I got it though.

      • Virtual Cards you get access to without owning a physical one and the reason why the above youse are probably didn't have to pay it's because originally used to get the card for free they now charge for physical cards

        • :-( got sucked in then! So the physical card is only useful for getting money out of an ATM?

          • @bozbargain: OR countries where there's not widespread use of contactless payments.

            • @Kyle-K: Yes good as a backup perhaps. It’s only $10 after all.

              • @bozbargain: I have the physical card but I didn't pay so… but yeah if you're planning on using it it will be a good backup in case you get stuck in some European country where contactless is not widespread. I hear Germany can still be a pain from time to time at smaller locations.

                • @Kyle-K: Yes, but I did. Just wanted to make myself feel a bit better.

  • Do you guys typically transfer a larger sum from eg AUD to EUR when in Europe or do you just use your AUD funds and pay the smallish commission? I haven’t worked out if there’s a big difference.

    • I had AUD funds available in the account and then convert it into more local currency (EUR for example) when I start running low

      • Why only ‘when you start running low’?

I'm travelling through a few different places that use different currencies so easier for me that way.
No point paying the small conversion fee to convert everything to euros and then another conversion fee to transfer it to pounds for the next leg of the trip

          • @JMosk: Got it. Yes, need to make sure that you spend what you convert.

For me the only advantage of using wise is pre-converting currency, Otherwise I would use my normal bank account. I already use several banks that are on this wiki so if I'm going to take the day to day Mastercard/Visa rate I'll just use my normal account.

Mine took about 5 business days to arrive. Ordered one of myself and one for my wife a day apart. Both arrived a day apart.
