Just general sound bar advice (not knocking this deal as it ain't bad for the price) I would minimum go for something with a centre channel for dialogue(this doesn't have one). Yes it's gonna cost you a little more but defo worth it if you can

100% agreed. A 3.1 soundbar is much better than a 2.1 soundbar for this very reason.

      • Do you have specific recommendations?

        • +1

I'm happy with my Sony HT-G700. It's currently going for $699 at JB, but I reckon EOFY sales will bring that down (+ at other retailers.)

      • Everyone is putting their 5.1 in the bin and buying sound bars… I don't get it.

        • +10

Soundbar is just more sleek, easier to setup, not much cabling, often integrated well with the TV and for majority of people it delivers good enough sound.

It appears this doesn't have HDMI ARC either, it's kind of essential in my opinion

      • Seconded.

      • Yes I have this soundbar and the absence of ARC is truly annoying.

My short review is just OK otherwise and much better than the speakers on my $540 hisense, although the syncing the sound can be tricky

    • Any recommendations around $500?

      • +1

I paid around $500 for my Samsung HW-Q70T almost 2yrs ago.. I have regrets as I find it severely lacking bass and also the centre channel still isn't strong enough. I have been umming about buying the rears just to see if it helps at all with dialogue. It's a 3.1.2 soundbar, also the app is useless and buggy. The surround sound effect is pretty decent though.

My advice is use rtings website (now they make you pay if you wanna see more than 3 reviews) but then go listen yourself in store based on that.

**Edit and also what hifi website

        Sonos beam

      • Bing Lee has the Samsung B650 for 395 at the moment which has a centre channel

      • I got the Samsung A650 from TGG last time they had the 10% off combined with CR 12% (I guess) ending up to be close to $300.
        So far so good.

    • What do you guys think of the JBL Bar 2.0?

      • Everyone I know who has one has either returned it sold it or hates it 😂

        Bassssss everywhere

      • i have the 2.1 deep bass and i quite like it. or at least have no issues with it. definitely much better than my TV sound

      • Recently got the JBL 5.1 Surround soundbar. Returned a Polk after a day (due to Polk Connect app being a POS).

Demo instore the $800 JBL and Yamaha 2090B and $800 Yamaha and the difference in sound was pretty obvious (big difference in price too though). Got JB HiFi to price match Bing Lee https://www.binglee.com.au/products/jbl-5-1-channel-surround…

What I like is the simple and easy set up (HDMI or Optical). Bass level from 1-5. Movies with explosions are much better and you can turn it bass down if you’re worried about neighbours). I watch movies with volume 20-23 (max is 30) and is plenty loud enough. Bluetooth Spotify sounds fine too.

Please note if you’re looking to fine tune sound with an equaliser, this doesn’t have it. But it’s more than okay with standard factory settings.

    • Any budget sound bars you'd recommend, that don't come with a separate subwoofer? (I live in apartments, so I don't want to disturb neighbors with subwoofer).

  • +17

Careful with this one. You need to set the bass to -10 for tv or you’ll find Jessica Alba sounding like Vin Diesel.

    • +3

Can’t get a visual on that thankfully

      Thank you.

I exhaled air out of my nose at a brisker rate than normal.

  • Gonna agree with the comments above that you need a minimum of 3.1ch. Spend a bit more, worth the investment

  • Polk sigma S4 dolby atmos soundbar $399 at JB. Same price as Polk sigma S2
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/polk-signa-s4-sound-bar-w…

    • How do you have Atmos on a soundbar? Kinda like have a fighter jet Mazda 3.

      • +1

Keep your hands off my Mazda.

      • It's all in the mind.

      • +3

They bounce the sound off the ceiling etc through top firing speakers angled, I thought it was a joke too but actually impressed. It works for the living room and although it's by no means the same as ceiling and rear speakers most of the public will be blown away if it's implemented well.

  • Ive had this for a few years now, as most others saying Id go with a 3.1 minimum. In most action movies the dialogue can be drowned out fairly significantly. Pretty good for music on the other hand

  • +1

At this price I would go for the yamaha good guys have on sale for 279… The top end Samsung soundbars are great

  • Music decoding: OGG (up to 48kHz), AAC,WAV, MP3, FLAC,ALAC,AIFF

I would like to know how it supports those files since it doesn't appear to have a USB port

  • Yamaha ATS-2090 is an affordable but great sound bar, especially for watching tv shows, movies etc. Subwoofer that comes with this is good enoough. I have been using it last couple of years and prefer this over Sony GT700 anyday, which i had to return after a week.

    Pro's:
    1. Great sound overall.
    2. Yamaha sound bar app available.
    3. Good Connectivity options.

    Con's:
    1. I don't prefer the cloth-like texture around the sound bar.
    2. It would have been great if we had some buttons on the sound bar. Only led indicators are available.

  • Sonos beam, sub and two ones for surround. Tune for the room and sound is great even in normal tv.

  • +1

I've had this for my PC for about a year now and it's perfect for a small space room for that purpose. Good sound overall and very easy to connect.

    • Is it powerful enough for a big living room ?

  • +1

I need something for my garage and this would be good. None within 500km of me and no delivery available….

    • I even bought gift cards to buy this (they had extra cashback) and when I went to get a set of these same problem :(

      • +1
