Best Vacuum Cleaner for Carpets?

Edit: Purchased V8 w detangle - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/707781

I currently live in an apartment that is 90% carpet and has a tiny bit near the kitchen bench that's tile. I need a significantly better vacuum cleaner than what I currently use

In your experience, what has been the best vacuum cleaner for carpet with a bit of tile cleaning to do (I'd imagine any vacuum can do the little bit of tile)?

I'm not too stressed on the shape of the vacuum, but do prefer something without bags.

  • Hi,
@ $349 https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-jet-60-pet-stick-… does carpet and hard floors.

    • thanks! Have you used it?

  • Apartments and Dyson stick vac goes together.

    • Which dyson would you recommend? I haven't had one before. Should I go all out and highend or just an older model?

      • I had v6 then upgraded to v10, for carpet, get the one with power head for carpet, absolute verson does.

        • I personally still use Dyson V6 from Aldi back in 2018. Recently need to change the battery to generic one at double capacity for around $35. Suction still very good, easy to clean as it can be disabled if have too and put it back. Recently bought few extra attachemnt for mattress and smaller motorized head

          • @foxmulder: Only thing I dislike about the v6 is how you empty the bin, other than that it's been great tool for me, i used to be a Miele fan.

@boomramada: OP has the money, but also a gf with long hair so the hair detangle tool might be handy 🧐

          • @foxmulder: You get duped about the generic battery, they overstated battery capacity but if you open it up you'll find it's only half of the stated capacity based on specs of the 18650 cell inside it.

Dyson V8 with carpet roller and soft roller, been on sale a lot recently for $400-$500

  • Miele C1
Buy the bags cheap in bulk

  • You asked for the best vacuum and unfortunately the best are generally the ones with bags.

This is the best vaccum I have ever used in my life. The amount of dirt this thing picks up actually makes you feel disgusting about how dirty your carpet is. My mum and my sister both borrowed it and vacuumed after using their dyson stick vacuums and could not believe the amount of dirt it picked up.
You can purchase a divertor for it which acts like a mini bagless vac so it helps to save the amount of dirt entering the bag. Look at the link and you will understand what I mean.
Also the power head is amazing!! Can't recommend this vacuum enough. I love it!

    • Is this a lot better than the new Dysons V15 etc?

      • Any mains powered machine with a power head is better than any Dyson

      • I haven't used that particular dyson but you can probably go to any Godfrey's store and test them out.
I can not compare to every vacuum but all I know is this one is worth every penny.
My sister also has a fairly new miele Vac and she is still considering buying this vacuum for her new house because of how good it is.

    • How do the bags work? Do you empty them or throw them out?

      • Throw them

        • Yes!

      • Throw them out but if you get the divertor with it you probably are lucky to change the bag once every 3 months and that is with very heavy vacuum use. I have 2 kids and 5 dogs and so it definitely gets a workout.

  • If you want corded Miele bagged are hands down the best.

For cordless in terms of overall value. I’ve been very happy with the LG Cord Zero range. It’s not the most powerful on paper, but plenty powerful for day to day use. All the filters are washable and easily replaceable, you get 2 batteries and higher end models have a stand. Replacement parts also tend to be fairly affordable.

For sheer performance, the Dyson range is good and has the best suction. But costs a lot more and I’ve personally found the battery’s die after 2 years and cost a lot to replace.

  • Miele have bagless.
Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog is 729 @ amazon AU or 749 @ Bing Lee
It has a power head as well. I have long hair & after every vac, I get a small pair of scissors & just cut in between the brushes & then use the crevice attachment to suck the hair off at high speed, easy done. It is a big vac & a bit hard for it to follow, but you get used to it.
When I 1st got it, I thought I would just give it a quick try as I just vacuumed the day b4. Man, you should have seen all the shit this sucker sucked up. I don't bother taking the power head off for the tiled floor, I just turn the suction down; it has 4 speed for the suction fan

  • henry vacuum is the best low budget one you can get!

  • I can get the Samsung Jet 90 Pro + Cleaning Station for about $650 (with 50 dollar discount voucher) also considering the Xiaomi G11 for $399 on ebay.
Both seem similar, I think if anything went wrong, the Samsung support would be better but the Xiaomi has the Hair detangle cutter thing, which is super useful (my current V6 sucks up alot of my wifes hair on the carpets)

Would love some opinions on which to get!
