Hi all,

Just wanting to get thoughts on whether or not this is a good deal.

For reference, I'm looking to try and book a round the world trip in 2023 and have approx 200k points.

I do have capacity to apply for 1-2 credit cards in the next 12 months.

Even at the best bonus its $2730 for 100k +50k bonus. 1.82c per point. It's a very expensive way to accumulate points vs just getting approved for a credit card with a 100k sign on bonus.

Taxes on a round the world will also add around $2,000 to ticket cost and you'll probably find it's barely worth it (especially if you don't have status to be able to book good flights).

    • Bugger, didn't realise the tax on the rtw tickets was that much. Might need to re think my trip! Thanks for the insight

You can certainly save on taxes by avoiding expensive airports like London Heathrow but I'd still say typically at least $1000 even if you try your hardest to avoid them.

Also because taxes are normally the same for business or economy obviously a redemption in business is preferable (318k QFF). My way of thinking of it is the points will give you a business class for the same dollar cost (in taxes) as the lowest possible budget airline.

        • Yep was aiming for business, handy to know =) maybe rtw will be in my future after all!

  • With regards to the taxes, there is a way to play the system that they've published here just involves having a primary start stop spot outside of Australia in many cases/

Definitely will be doing this when i finally get a chance to use my 600k covid QF points.
