Experience with Auspost Business underpaid postage process

For those with an Auspost Business account and you submit your own parcel details to generate labels, can you share your experience on Auspost current process of notifying for underpaid postage?

I wonder how much the scanning threshold is before they charge you for underpaid postage. Is it 10% or a set amount?

"We’re resuming the automated process to identify and charge for items sent with underpaid postage with MyPost Business to ensure timely delivery to your customers, and to ensure all customers are paying the correct rate for the delivery of items. We’ve reviewed our processes and made some improvements to reintroduce automated postage checks, while minimising the impact to your business. Namely, we’ve increased the scanning thresholds to allow for slight inconsistencies, reducing the likelihood you’ll be notified of underpaid postage for slight variations in dimensions, and we’ve increased the time to pay for underpaid postage from 14 to 28 days."

I use their eBay labels service and I got a bill once for 20c and another time for like $2.25 in the mail. I don’t bother measuring and weighting most of the time and just guess. I assume it’s just a occasional sample they take. The whole point of these systems is to save them staffing costs.

Are you scamming Australia Post? Cut costs some other way.

Pretty sure mail fraud is a serious offence.

  • Am I the only one here bothering to weigh and measure as per standard procedure?

If you are paying correct postage it is unlikely to be a material issue for you.

Sounds like you may occasionally get an underpayment charge come through and you'll have just on a month to clear it up.

  • I'm sure you use My post business to save money? If you do, in case of underpaid article, they will just charge the difference with the same way how you pay for it. No admin fees

  • You normally have to pay the difference in postage before they forward it on.
However, with a business account, they will charge you the difference in postage and then a dishonour fee of $1.50 per item usually.
It's important to weigh parcels and put the correct postage on. Just check the weights and dimensions.
