Q. What is "Refurbished Stock"?
“Refurbished Stock” refers to stock which has a cosmetic blemish or imperfection such as a scratch, dent or rub mark, has had a fault that has now been repaired by the manufacturer, or is an ex-display model. All Refurbished Stock is in perfect working order.

Q. Are these refurbished by Apple or JB HI-FI?
A. From what I can see they're from JB HI-FI; Apple refurbished ones are a bit more expensive.

Do check out the reviews and make sure you keep your receipt.

"When I received this order the laptop keyboard was broken in multiple places and unusable. I would recommend buying refurbished models from Apple directly where you can inspect the product and access repairs instantly."

JB Refurbished = Dropped down a flight of stairs. "JB, You've done it again!" :P

Not sure if the refurbished quality from JB-HIFI. The one star review on one model in the list makes me concerned.

  • +7

given that a laptop like this for most people is at least good for 5-7 years, 2 or 300 extra to have a brand new one isn't a bad idea.

    • +1

Yup, my MacBook Pro from uni is still going strong (4-5 yrs old already). No signs of any slow performance yet

      • when people ask me wHy dOnT yOu gEt wiNdOwS lApToPs this is always my response. I've had 3 windows laptops and sooner or later they all shit the bed. I've had 2-3 MacBooks so far and no signs of slowing down or shitting the bed. For desktop I still use a PC but for a laptop there isn't anything as reliable as a MacBook.

Surprisingly my Dell Inspiron 2 in 1 lappy is going strong after 5 years, only thing I've done is replace the battery and its runtime is as good as new :)

Worth it to try your luck, apple refurbished isn’t necessarily better either. They just spread flux over everything and slap it into their reflow ovens instead of actually replacing problematic components (Its too unnecessarily expensive for them to actually do proper BGA rework on it). With thousands of devices sent back everyday, simply slapping it in a glorified oven and hoping it’s fine is the most cost-efficient solution. If it doesn’t work, they’ll just hand you another refurb device with brand “new” packaging instead. So definitely worth it if you can get a MacBook with only cosmetic issues.

Actually nvm, I would go for the one with 256gb SSD above instead. :)
Maybe it’ll be worth it if they drop the price by another $300

    M1 vs. M2?

When the next version comes out, will BMW have an issue?

    • +1

They didn't seem to have an issue with the M1 or the M2

I bought one of the 256GB ones about 7 months ago. It was like new (only 3 battery cycles) and I haven’t had any problems so far. Of course, this could be the epitome of YMMV.

Wasn’t worth paying for express shipping though since it took them weeks to send me one. They agreed to refund shipping at least. 🙃

  • Will buying a refurb from JB be TRS refund eligible?

    • +1

Yes, ensure the receipt has your address and name match with your passport. Over 1K value of goods, the receipt must have an address.

If JB themselves are doing the refurbishing I would stay well away, ex employee of 5 years*

Five years of working every weekend chasing commission and getting plenty of free stuff, I'm very happy to have weekends off these days 👍

        • Don't mind if I ask: what does the JB Hi-Fi refurbished process look like? Do they just wipe it clean and send it off?

  • +1

Beware of JB "refurb" items that were demo stock left on for the past year and shipped without the original packaging/boxes.

  • Refurbished by Apple, not Jb. They also had the pro for $1329, Qb oh I bought last night

    • +1

How do you know that applies to all of them? The site isn't clear. It could be that it's a mix of both and that you got 'lucky'?

Btw, Harvey Norman and offices works are doing new airs for $1348 $ $1347

    • Do you mean the M1 MacBook Air? They're the 2020 model. The M2 MacBook Air should be a little more than $13xx?

      • yeah i don’t think jb are selling refurbished m2 airs since they haven’t been released yet

  • oos i assume page 404s

  • Just to provide feedback. NOT an Apple certified product. Limited warranty on the pro I purchased expires 22 September 2022. Not sure about battery cycle count, will need to check when setup.

    • Did it come in its original box? Where the accessories still sealed or used? Keen to hear about battery cycle count!

  • Original box but slightly damaged. No shrink wrapping. Original power supply and cable although cable end looked slightly bent. My recommendation would be not to buy.

  • Update #2. Device won’t charge. Tried two charges which work on the laptop. Took to Apple they have booked in for repair assigned parts totalling $1700….. covered under warranty (just), expires 22 September 2022. Battery cycle count 27. Techs said battery or logic board could be faulty??

    • That’s ridiculous and such poor form on JB’s end, selling you something like this. Are you proceeding with the repair or will you just return it to JB?

      • Proceeding with repair from Apple as it’s under warranty. Will contact JB Hifi to provide feedback.

        • Where was your Pro shipped from? I'm waiting on my refurb to be dispatched from their online distribution centre in Melbourne. My previous JB purchases always came directly from one of their retail shops.

    • +1

I'm curious if the refurbished one is covered by 1 year warranty.
How come the warranty is so short?

  • Got mine today without any form of shipping notification - the box looked pretty bad but the actual MacBook was in pristine condition. Could see that they had wiped the screen. Battery cycle count of 6 which is OK I guess but Apple Warranty is expiring in Feb 2023 which is annoying. Does anyone know if this can be reset by Apple if you provide them with the actual invoice from the retailer?

    • Thanks for sharing. I'd say give Apple Support a call and see whether they can help you: 1300 321 456

I contacted JB first via chat, they said I should contact Apple. I rang Apple and they said it's a refurb (which I acknowledged) and that the serial doesn't match their records and that JB needs to fix this up with them directly. I've now used JB's webform to ask them to do so - will report back what they say. At least mine appears to be in good condition but I don't think I'll ever buy a refurb from JB again.

        • That's a hassle! But at least your laptop is in great shape!

        • I called Apple and they said they're happy to repair but suggested to contact JB to replace.

I ended up returning this unit as the caps lock is always on and the whole keyboards is not working. It's not worth the hassle.

    • I have received mine, too but the keyboard is not working and the battery was flat,
Jb said they cover 2 years warranty.
